Sharp GF777 Speaker replacement and minor repair

Recently got this tired looking GF777, cassette play buttons stuck down with cassette inside, all speakers shot and full of grit, tape switch snapped off
Made a metal switch using my angle grinder, actually used an 8mm spanner as the donor metal.




Managed to find a pair of 15cm Sony hifi speakers in a charity shop for £3, I gave them a respray in matt black, pretty good fit, just a couple of nicks taken out with an angle grinder to fit around the plastic inside the box mounting. Unfortunately they are 6ohms but better than 8.



ordered these new from germany, 4ohms



I spent about 6 hrs the other day rebuilding the cassette mechanisms, both worked fine until i plugged it in, now the right deck is stuck again, possibly due to the motor being shot and not allowing the completion of the mechanism (you'll understand if you have worked on these) pretty clever stuff.

thanks, im surprised how much speakers cost, think I did pretty well with the cost of these. The bass units were £17ea.

We need to take it all apart to work on the cassette again. It is time consuming! I fixed a non working 777 completely and when I put all back one cassette don't auto stop. I will work on that later.

Are you sure it is the motor?

It can be due to so many other issues from dirty from leaf switches and so on..

The seller in Japan? ill get the voltage meter on the feed, that way I can find what the voltage is too.

it could be something else too
also there a lot of micro switches on the deck that seem to break
because i get a lot of requests for them
Not exactly sure what they do
but may have something to do with it
anyway if you need something ill give you a boomboxery discount price

How's the sound on Line In after the speaker swap? I lucked out on some BOSE 2 OHM Bass & Bass/Mid drivers & they thump good for a 777 without extra amps & the Woofer controls are set 'FLAT' or '0'...they're hard to find tho but push out the max 45 watts without audible distortion...

People caution against it but I've had no ill effects. In fact the IC's didn't even feel hot during normal operation & the chart for the IC indicates 2 OHM operation without officially supporting it....

thanks again, and thanks Nikonfoo, ill test it prob next week when I have a little spare time, pretty sure the switch is ok as the power is now permanently on with the play button stuck so I know that at least that switch works. sounds good Chronic, id love a set of bose, Ive always rated them highly.
