Most decent boomboxes have bass. But to feel it, you need to listen from very close distance, say your ears an inch away from the speaker.
I do that always with my National RX-7000. As you go away, there will not be any audible bass. That is why, when you just connect any boombox with an external speaker, the sound will be almost comparable with an average (read not high end!) amplifier.

I think they sound "ok" and they have "OK" Bass but the subs do make a pap noise if you keep the sub level up when you blast it, due to the sub surrounds being so tight, i think that's why people swap out the speakers for more modern ones that can move more. these were my GF999s years ago, and the other is my ol GF777My old GF999s.JPGMy Old GF777.jpg

yes, you are right. GF-777s sound best to me when the subwoofer levels are kept at zero.
But they do have good bass in the subwoofer circuitry, as I can feel when an external boxed speaker (and even an active subwoofer) is connected to the subwoofer out.

It's silly to criticize the 777 when it's actually one of the bassiest vintage 1-pieces. This is a boombox forum after all, not a home hifi forum. I think we're all old and experienced enough to know that they can't compare to a home system, or to the top bluetooth speakers

In my opinion play gf 777 is the most underrated Boombox in history these things pack plenty of punch but the speakers are crap quality but that could be resolved with new speakers
. With the right speakers this Boombox is a completely different monster.

at least they sound much better than an m70 haha.....it was a pleasure owning a few of the range, only the crazy ebay prices stop me from getting one back in my life
Keep the bass control at moderate/reasonable levels and don't turn it all the way up. Some boxes tolerate more and some less. That's all!
Boomboxes are all different in performance and that is why we all have many in our collection. One of my GF 777 perform the best and the other two are not as good, they might need a good service plus new speaker upgrade.

there not designed to be played at full tilt............the louder the amp you have the better but that means you have more headroom etc....i used to play the m90 on flat out but the bass and treble were always in the centre and that is still asking for trouble as there so old imho

The 777 really needs a dedicated sub woofer on those middle speakers and you would be suprised what these boxes can do.

Like the M90 it doesn't even get loud till after the halfway mark after that it gets exponentially loud lol. If you cut the bass back to about 1/4 and crank this m*********** Up full blast and It'll go until kingdom come and sound good doing it.
