Frankly, I think the Sanyo M9994 should receive serious consideration. It's a great sounding boombox, similar in size to those others and has the best line in feature of almost all boomboxes because it's the only one I can think of that has a line control plus it's controls being rotary is better sealed and much more problem free than the sliders found on the sharps.
I agree with all the above however in Europe the 9994 seems to command more money than the others and the thread starter has stated that he has a budget.

Unfortunately out of my budget from the USA and none appear in the UK sold listings on eBay.

You do make an interesting point about rotary vs. sliders, especially with them being on top. Sliders look so damn cool though. :-D

With rotary I prefer them on the front like the Aiwa TPR-950/955 and Panasonic RX-5250.

I always found the line in of the M9994, M9998, MX-720, MX-920 lacking in sensitivity for iPod connection.

To get the volume you need, the volume of the boombox has to be cranked up beyond the loudness section of the volume pot.

Wahoo! Good choice! I was following that one on eBay too, looks a good one. I've actually just bought my third yesterday too. The first boombox I really took to and is still my favourite is my 9191, got a second in a trade that my daughter insisted on stealing to take to Uni as it's her favourite too. Always wanted a black one to go with the silver as I think it looks even better in black...got one off eBay Germany yesterday so well chuffed. Let us know what you think of yours when you get it...well done fella :-)

Hey thanks, it climbed in price pretty quickly but it looked a tidy one and is within my budget so what the hell, now to source the impossible, an original antenna!

Glad you managed to find a good 9191, please share some pictures when it arrives :-)
I think these are great value for money at the moment "You will not be disappointed"

My search for a good GF - 9292 is proving more difficult, i've only seen a few on Ebay during the last 6 months
but they were all in rough condition.

..and I've just picked up another 9191 in very good condition for 55 quid! It was originally planned to be picked up as a spare box for parts because of the better case (not as many minor dings) and the speakers are unstained. I intended to swap case/speakers with mine. Even comes with straight original antennas.

Turns out that it only had the usual issue of the left channel not working, dusty top and switches etc. A bit of Servisol Super 10 on the Mode switch and it burst into life! Sounds brill now with VU meters exactly in sync on a test tone.

Two working boxes, one for the bedroom, one for the kitchen. Result!

I also have 2, my beater is all complete except 1 antenna so now it's not much of a beater anymore.
Great news you have 2 now.
