Thanks to a good friend I was able to acquire this beautiful, fully functioning silver Sharp GF 800. I know many of you have this box so I will be preaching to the choir. This Sharp is a wonderful sounding unit. The 10 band eq really allows you to taylor the sound of any kind of music to your liking. The power and overall sound of this unit are up there with any grail. The bass is very solid and strong without overpowering the music. The midrange and tweeters are loud and crisp without sounding tinny. This unit handles it power very well. You can crank it up to notch 8 with no detectable distortion. The build quality of this box is also top quality...the sound deadening material inside the speaker is an inch thick! So with its great overall sound and thumping bass this unit should be on everyones must have list!!

Man that looks sweet in silver!!!
I have yet to hear that model .
It gets the job done huh!!!

Frank it has a very powerful high end sound to it. Very rich and detailed. This one looks like it was hardly ever used. The 10 band eq has sensitive inputs which really allows you to taylor the sound the way you like. Really a superb box!!...thanks for the kudos...I've been lucky with some of my recent finds....lucky to know the :super: one... :-D

Did you paint the grills Melly? They look a little too good. Like better than I remembered, Like "perfect" good.

melly - is the 800 in the same sound league as your new FH7 ?

The 800 has excellent sound but the FH7 is a step above. I did a quick comparison today and the FH7 sound is deeper and richer. The superb power pulls out every ounce of the music with less effort. When listening to the FH7 I kept turning around the room looking for more speakers because the sound really surrounds you. The speakers in the FH7 are superb...the best I have heard in a portable. You truly hear ALL of the music.

Norm: I did add a fresh coat of the Dull Aluminum Metallic paint on the grills... :-D ...

Melly, that Sharp GF-800 must be a real heavy hitter -- literally! The board below it looks like it's about to give way. :w00t: :-O :hmmm:

Oh great - thanks for reminding me - NOT!!

Melly, great box - congrats! I've only seen GF-800 in silver on ebay - I think it's GF-800Z version, if I remember correctly. Yours is pretty unique though - since it's not that version - very cool! That little Sharp sounds better than at least half of my boxes - everybody should get one! :-D

Well, let me put it this way - my only 3 boxes that sound better without any questions are M90, BigBen and National RX-7200.

All the other ones are either not as good, or on par - National Panasonic 4360, Sony CFS-99, Sharp GF-9000 and Sharp HK-9000 aren't as good.

National Panasonic 5350, JVC M70 and Sharp GF-777 are better - maybe, maybe not - tough call.

Also, because of this GF-800 I sold my GF-9696 and Sanyo 920 - I couldn't even listen to them after this Sharp.

Crazy stuff! But that is why I'm so curious to get WF-939 - it's supposed to be a little bit better than GF-800. Unless it's Oldskool's WF-939 - then it's not

Bobby got to hear it and then heard it when I hooked it up to my Sansui SP-5500x speakers. He'll confirm the sound for sure.

If you are looking for a 3 piece with killer sound the FH7 is one I would definitely recommend...its a 7 piecer technically but it's power and sound will lay that whole list to rest... :-D ...just my opinion...hmmm, we should start a poll on the best sounding boombox ever, include all 1 piece, 3 piece and 7 piece models..... :hmmm:

Freddie, the Sansui SP-5500x have SPL in the, what, 99db range? A teeny realistic transistor radio would sound loud hooked up to those...

Yeah, without a doubt, the FH series definitely is in a different league altogether.
