Oh and I've used black shoe polish on all my speakers. Works great and it's a very light liquid. .
Are you talking about edge dressing?
The brand is called Griffin. The one with the sponge on top. Not the black tar in a can. Works for me.

and this colour has so much to give..... :-P

I will check the sound later, I don't think it is affected.

Let's hope so!

If it is ink, it contains binders that can dry pretty well depending on the type, but some wet and make the paper soft and pliable.
The non-volatile mass left after the application affects the total mass of cone paper.
If you gently touch a cone paper it feels stiff. The stiffness has a lot to do to the sound quality.
Provided mass and stiffness is not altered much it will not show a whole lot of difference to an average listener.

This is a pretty good drying ink and I used it because it was a offered by a hifi restaurator. He also told me it dries quick and doesn't make them lot heavier. I tested the speakers and they are stiff as the non-painted ones

Nice job. Of course a couple of grams of material adds weight & mass to the cones. The result will be a lower resonant frequency, & slightly less efficiency per watt. As long as the material is somewhat evenly applied & doesn't react by deteriorating the paper of the cone it should work like a charm. I would hesitate in using anything that has a solvent or hydrocarbon based curing process but hey, I have never tried it myself so I could be just overcautious too. If they turn out to not work out I still have mine if you want them but I won't let them go for cheap, unfortuantely. They are hard to replace if I want to restore my 777 back to original. The reinforcing bars attached to the top of the woofers are probably a revision due to shipping damage on earlier revisions without the reinforcemnet. Manufacturing revisions happen all the time because of feedback from dealers & customers as to why units fail prematurely & then QA teams come up with solutions to avoid such warranty failures.

Great job & hope to see more pics of your progress. :breakdance:

P.S. If you ever get a donor box with a wroking tuner board(88 to 108 FM), It's worth CASH MONEY, BEEOOOOOYYY!!! Let me know, thanx!!!

I will try these speakers , also planning to repair the little hole on the inner right speaker. If the result isn't satisfying at all I will definetly call you about the speakers (at the moment tooo expensive as I would need all 4 Speakers)

Seems like my model got pretty much factory updates..... :hmmm: some pretty cool ++++++ for this box

Again i see these 2 metal pieces connecting the woofer and the super woofer.
Very strange , as my GF 777 does not have these ( is the same version though)

These plates protect the body of boombox from twisting.
I have two boomboxes SHARP GF 777 and they had such plates.
As far as I know, SHARP GF 767 don't have such plates, because it weighs less.
Here picture of one, I restored last year:

BoomBoomBlaster, good painting job.
Now you need only new dust cap. You can find on ebay:

Good luck with restoration... :-)

You have a picture of the hole? The 4 holes on each bass speaker are there for a reason.

I so want to pull everything out of my 777 and newly aquired 767. But this scares the crap out of me.

I followed your link and this got my imagination working as well! Will these inks be safe on paper/paper type speakers? They obviously don't cause damage to ordinary paper (!) but what about the 'technical repercussions' mentioned throughout the thread? I'd like to try these if they're safe - and just look at the range of colours!

I just happened onto it. Says it's safe for alot of applications. I have some spent blown paper speakers I have held to test some ink. I may grab a color to test. Sky blue. lol
