Today i started my big project sharp gf 777 project. As i don't have money and time right now to repaint the body I started with painting the speakers.

mine are pretty rotten as you see on the picture.... So i used edding refiller T25 in black and that is the result :-D

the dustcaps are ordered

From time to time I will show my updates of the whole process here, but it will cost some time.

I really want to tackle the "blackout" to my 777 speakers but don't want to take the chance. I just don't know if some of these dyes or paints will ruin the speaker cone eventually...... tough choice :hmmm:

Might actually protect and strengthen them :hmmm:

Very nice, BBB. Mine were spray painted back in 2008 and have been going strong ever since then. I might have to check out that filler stuff.

Speakers look great in this black colour.
Again i see these 2 metal pieces connecting the woofer and the super woofer.
Very strange , as my GF 777 does not have these ( is the same version though)

i have seen these support braces on the 3 gf 777's iv'e worked on , as far as i can tell they they stiffen the front case , or keep the speakers from rattling or both.

i have used regular black magic markers to re color black speaker cones and i have yet to find a cheaper easier way to do it. it requires several coats but after that they look new .smell like hell for a while though  .

and this colour has so much to give..... :-P

I will check the sound later, I don't think it is affected.

Let's hope so!

If it is ink, it contains binders that can dry pretty well depending on the type, but some wet and make the paper soft and pliable.
The non-volatile mass left after the application affects the total mass of cone paper.
If you gently touch a cone paper it feels stiff. The stiffness has a lot to do to the sound quality.
Provided mass and stiffness is not altered much it will not show a whole lot of difference to an average listener.

The speakers have stickers over the magnets instead of the regular stamp. All 4 speakers have huge magnets too  :hmmm: I've never seen that on any of the 777's I've come across. What version is this? Check the time stamp on this one. Many upgraded things in your 777. Pretty cool! Oh and I've used black shoe polish on all my speakers. Works great and it's a very light liquid. Did it to my all my big radios and they all sound fine. Paint IMO might be heavier. Great job none the less.

Nice job. Of course a couple of grams of material adds weight & mass to the cones. The result will be a lower resonant frequency, & slightly less efficiency per watt. As long as the material is somewhat evenly applied & doesn't react by deteriorating the paper of the cone it should work like a charm. I would hesitate in using anything that has a solvent or hydrocarbon based curing process but hey, I have never tried it myself so I could be just overcautious too. If they turn out to not work out I still have mine if you want them but I won't let them go for cheap, unfortuantely. They are hard to replace if I want to restore my 777 back to original. The reinforcing bars attached to the top of the woofers are probably a revision due to shipping damage on earlier revisions without the reinforcemnet. Manufacturing revisions happen all the time because of feedback from dealers & customers as to why units fail prematurely & then QA teams come up with solutions to avoid such warranty failures.

Great job & hope to see more pics of your progress. :breakdance:

P.S. If you ever get a donor box with a wroking tuner board(88 to 108 FM), It's worth CASH MONEY, BEEOOOOOYYY!!! Let me know, thanx!!!
