8A fuse means you will need a transformer capable of 100va, minimum. Read the back of your radio.... it will list specifications on how many watts the boombox consumes. It will almost surely be far less than 100wats. That is how much power the internal transformer is able to supply max. Well, actually less since that is gross consumption. There will surely be some transformer loss.

Time for an update.

I bought last december some cheap Mp3-Radios and tried them in my GFranken-555. One of them worked really good. So I kept it in the Boombox. Now I can turn the Volume up with no problem and i can jump through the mp3-files (not bad, when you have more than 40 files and over 1000 songs on one usb-stick). I listened already the whole day music with it, without any break. So everything is fine.

Old radio:

New radio:

So basically it´s still the same sh!t looking beater-555, but with a better Radio. ;-)

Still need to test it on batteries. :hmmm:

Bump!

How is this going Mike? I would like to do something like this with a VZ2000.

Man, if I had a VZ, I know, what i would do. I would replace the recordplayer with a 10" woofer and would add an amp. :w00t:

The power supply is good with the new radio. I can turn it up to full volume. The new radio is a bit weak on bass, but so it works. Anyway it doesn´t sound worse than a stock 555, but with mp3s.

It was still cheaper (with 3 mp3 radios), than my lasonic 931i (witch was already a bargain in europe). ;-)
