Selling for decent prices has gotten really tough.

To be clear those were two different collectors.

The two storage units that got sold this spring were from one collector in Indiana.... and the boxes were sold to a buyer in Pennsylvania who didn't want his name or location disclosed. But I am disclosing all I know here.... the state. So if you see a ton of boxes hit ebay from PA that might be the guy. I doubt it was for a personal collection.

The other one (M70+ stash) is still sitting there in a different collectors possession. Different state altogether. I could buy the whole thing from him next week if I wanted to and I had the money to blow....

Must have been that Francis Sharrak guy.

All this goes back to a question I posted on that other site a long time ago. If you buy a boombox for $300 and pay $100 for shipping, do you then try to sell that same box for $400 plus shipping just to come out even?

Once again...

DO NOT BUY BOOMBOXES AS INVESTMENTS!! :nonono: :nonono:

Buying a boombox is like buying a car. You have to expect to lose money when you go to sell it. However, it's always nice to at least come out even. :-)

:agree: :agree: :agree: :agree: :agree:

I never try to recoup shipping just the price I paid, I figure I was "leasing" it for awhile!

I haven't really tried to sell anything lately - except for JVC M90 and National Panasonic 5350 - and M90 sold for about 40% less than it could've sold last year. As far as 5350 - one of the offers I got for it was $3 - HA-HA!! I don't know what that guy was thinking - it was his best and final offer   I think the highest offer was $300 - for a fully working in good condition 5350. So ya, I also think it's not a good time to sell anything right now :-)

Maybe not boomboxes but there are a lot of ebay sellers that deliberately list their products at exhoribitantly high prices with low best offer acceptace settings. Some buyers get "used" to this huge discrepency and figure it's worth a free shot. I'd admit that sometimes, I try a low offer just in case.

That guy sounds like real "tool"... $3.00!!! Why waste someones time!!

A 5350 for $300.00 is a joke also!

:agree: on both counts, $3.00 isn't even worth the time it takes to click "NO".

It was his third bid - he sent offers for one dollar, two dollars, and best and final offer - for 3 dollars. I'm still curious as to what he expected
But ya - I am not going to sell anything until after we're done with the crisis. By the way - I don't see too many grails for sale lately - I think a lot of people realized they are not going to get top dollar - and also wait to sell

I hear you Vladi but I just have to get rid of some of the home stereo gear, boomboxes, parts, etc... that are cluttering up the place. My best boxes aren't going anywhere anytime soon!

I think that the economic downturn has just accelerated the price adjustments that were already starting to occur. I have watched auctions on Ebay and Yahoo closely for a long time, and with a few exceptions most everything is selling for less than it did 12-18 months ago. One thing that kept me from jumping in on this hobby back in 2005-2006 was the rapid acceleration of ending prices on Ebay. Most of what I have collected, six boxes at this point, have come from outside of online auction sites. I did buy a Kaboom, the NB1 model, through Ebay and paid about $225 for it just before the latest models were discontinued. The Kabooms seem to have really exploded in value since the NB10 and NB20 models were discontinued.
That $960 Kaboom auction about three weeks ago- that was crazy!

:agree: i know lot's of other people who sell other items...prices are sliding heavy on all kinds of stuff, not just BB's.
But the most in demand of items whether BB's or not still bring the cash, just very rough right out of the grail zone.

Electronics fall in price a lot - just look at big screen TVs or blu-ray players - they cost $1000 two years ago, and now you can buy one for $99 - so we with our boombox hobby should feel pretty lucky - compared to those price drops! :-D
