Headphone jack?....
Do you mean that there could be corrosion in the contacts and normally when the jack is not used, the contacts make one connection between amp speaker output and the speakers, so the corrosion could affect the power going to speakers?

This seems like a possibility, but the fading out sound makes me think of a bad cap or maybe there is something wrong with the diodes in the transformer/power board.

T-STER, did you try the box with AC and the batteries, and if you did, were there any differences?

Definitely check the headphone jack. Spray some contact cleaner in there and run a headphone plug in and out several times.

Also, it might not apply to the 920, but on my old M-X720 I had, the power switch was the culprit my sound problems. The leaf spring had lost some of it's "spring" so it was not making good contact. After a little shape bending and polishing, the 720 really woke up. It's just an idea for you.

Exactly. I had this problem when I restored my C-100 and it still creeps up on my Sanyo M9990 every now and then. The sound from the speakers will fade out - it's not like a dirty record switch sound.

Thanks guys I will look at these issues. I thought i had cracked it when i found a couple of bad caps, i replaced these with new Panasonic ones and prepared to fire it up but nothing :bang:

By hook or by crook i will get this box sorted, its my grail so it has to blast again.

I have been working on it over christmas so will update you all when i have rechecked the issues you mention.
