Well, maybe it was my copy. Great looks, good sound - but it lacked that sheer power of JVCs. Even my M70 sounded a lot more powerfull.
Still - amazing box - great looks and high end sound compared to most boxes out there! And GF-9696 is a high end box itself - I don't think there's anything wrong in comparing these two models sound wise :-)

i would say overall the mx 920 is half of an m90 sound wise if that makes any sense  just as good but only half as much like comparing a single whopper to a double whopper they taste the same but one has twice as much to love.

I can sure go for a double Whopper right now - with cheese!

Perhaps Sanyo's other big box, the Big Ben, is a better and fairer comparison.

Well, that's a very different opinion from what Vladi said. :-/ I may have to get one to find out for myself.

Any more opinions, anybody?

...my opinion maybe a little skewed because my version has had the Superduper treatment...new caps, pots, and amps...it's definitely not the loudest box out there, my M70 is louder but if you are judging quality of sound the 920 is up there, the M90 is definitely better but this box is in the room... :-D ...I will be travelling to the East Coast in July, I might have to bring mine out to Philly for a jam session... :-)

...possibly, because the M90 is a powerful beast with great sound to match...and in my opinion the best one-piece box ever made but it is fun to add other great one-piece boxes to the mix...too bad the M90 crushes all challengers to it's throne though..

That's definitely a high-end model! Congratulations!

For those who own one, is it comparable sound-wise to high-end units (M90, S90, etc.) from other manufacturers?

Sound-wise it is definitely on the M90, S90 sound level. The music sounds very clean and detail on this box...and Sanyo's wide setting really sets it apart sound-wise. Where the M90 stands out is it's overall power, but for sound and clarity it is definitely on par with M90 and S90...beautiful detailed highs and solid lows, and the build quality actually is a little higher than the M90. I feel it is definitely in the top 5 of all the high end 1 piecers I have heard.

These sound GREAT but you must have a faulty m90  but im using mine now and i like it

Congrats on your 920 she looks mint and yea they look much nicer than an m90 :-)
