I've suggested they pile over here so we'll see who does. And I've just spoken to Fatdog by pm and he's alive and well :-)
Most of us are already here and have been for some time.

Great to hear Bobby`s doing well.

Ha ha I don't have a clue about maintaining a website but I am pretty IT literate and fairly smart but I don't think anything will come of my offer to be honest

I've only visited S2G on occasion but I'll still miss it once it's gone, It'll be a sadly missed community and resource. Keeping this forum going has taken on a new significance.

Apparently it's not about money that s2g is closing. It's about owner not wanting to keep site up because of how much work it entails. Anyone I guess can take it over and keep it going according to Cris. Joe u should take over ;)

Bad Boy Bill

Just curious, which Cris is that? I'm not sure I've heard that name before. Paul is the one who made the announcement, and several people including myself have asked him what it would take (financially) to keep the site running and/or acquire it from him, but there's been no response yet.

If it gets taken down, then not only can we not post anymore, but all the content is gone........... (unless of course someone makes a copy and hosts it somewhere else).

Cris Tyler is Moderator. I guess there's a price of $99/month for anyone that wants to take it over

That's sad to hear. I haven't been there much but when I first started out I browse it a little to search for information on different boxes to figure out how to work on them and such.

I hope someone can find a way to at least save the contents of the site, in hopes maybe it can be brought back in the future.

Bill. Not sure why you think the sale is not about money. There is a separate thread on S2G where Paul offered the site up for sale back in March and he stated he would prefer it be sold to a member, but that he would take the sale to another venue if a member buyer could not be found. He is selling the domain, not the site and he did mention that he would prefer that the website be preserved insofar as the forum and content, but also mentioned that the site could be commercialized or maybe even go a different direction. From these, I gather that the sale is paramount to preserving data since clearly if the site is sold to a purely commercial buyer (and not a member), all control to the site is lost to a non-enthusiast and therefore, it would be naive to expect that someone who pays for an established domain would not expect it to turn a profit. That he would consider selling it in that manner in the face of all the members now chiming in offering to subsidize the site tells me that there are financial considerations beyond the ongoing operational expenses (read sale amount).

I've nothing against this, since as you guys know, I have operated the Wikiboombox site for over a year now and understand well the monetary burden as well as the amount of work needed to keep it operational. Free information is great, but in this life, nothing is free and somebody has paid for the hosting fees, domain registration, not to mention the labor investment by myself and Reli and all other contributors. Anyhow back to S2g.....

Unless someone knows something different, it sounds like it will take more than just the willingness to take over S2G and it's operational expenses to keep it up and ownership transferred to you. The domain has been up for like 15 years or so? and Paul did a remarkable job building up the site and name recognition. There is value to it, at least there is as long as it is up and running. Once it shuts down, the value drops precipitously since it's all about visitors and that drops to nothing once it shuts down.

I hope Paul gets everything he can for it. He deserves it for all his hard work, time and money investment all these years.

Hello all! :-D

A "migrant" from s2g here and just wanted to wave a hand at everyone. I'm a "noob" so to speak when compared to most at s2g who have been in it for the long haul, but I'm an enthusiast no doubt. I just started collecting last year and shortly after that started I searched the net for a site that I could share and learn from. I am in no way, shape, or form a tech so you'll be out of luck with any help from me there. I do collect units though and I very much enjoy sharing pics of those and looking at pics of the collection's of others.

I see the option for donating to support the site is readily accessible and I'll be no mooch. I will help out there as well.

In any case, salutations to each of you and I look forward to continuing here with members I know and getting to know members I don't.

Norm on FB post it was mentioned about issue of the work involved then I read post on s2g about the sale and cost. Sadly I haven't kept up with s2g because it seemed to be to much drama. If the site does die it will stink because most of us got our start there. Oh and again Norm how the heck do find time and energy to type all this? Lol. Just Kidding!!!! 😜
