True but buying a new transformer requires you to find one with the right specs. Kind of hard to do for the novice, searching through lots of catalogs and reference sheets. And that isn't something I have much patience for, lol.
To add to this, some boxes like my Conion have an additional secondary winding dedicated to the dial lamp, so if you had a Japanese box like this you'd have to rewire the lamp to DC. I swear SuperDuper was talking about this in another thread lately, too lazy to find it.

Sometimes the transformer has a 100V and a 120V tap on them.
change one wire on the board.

I would not run it on higher voltages for long times
it can stress the transformer and make it run hot

It is always safe to double check the voltage of the unit and wattage before you plug it in to the AC outlet.

It is so easy to make a mistake! :bang: I've done it and realized after say 10 min... :bang:

Not to repeat mistakes, I always put a painters blue tape to cover the AC wire plug in socket of boxes with 100V. This habit really helps.

That's nothing. A local mate has run 240v through both of his JDM M75s - yep! :-)

One died and the other one is sick indeed.

There was a little drinking involved.
