I chose cracked case, but could be cracked tuner glass too.

For some reason I can't weld plastic to save my life. I've bought and tried the good stuff that was mentioned by Blu_Fuz long ago, I've tried every super glue. Sometimes it works but usually not for me.

Nothing scares me off a box if its the right price and I love rebuilding a cracked/smashed case. I'm not saying I can fix everything, coz I can't, but I'll give anything a go :-)

My choice isn't on your list - amp problems with no output or uneven output from each channel.
If I can't resolve this issue after cleaning/replacing switches etc, I'm pretty much stuck!

James.... :-)

At first, I thought nothing scared me. Then I saw "Tuner Problems." :scream:
Thanks, but no thanks...

Lately trying to net me a grail at bargain basement prices has put me deep into restorations.

Plexi repair
Cracked cases
Paint
Recapping
Using a multimeter
Jumping traces
Finding missing parts
Deck rebelts

I am happy to learn so this has made me a different kind of collector than when I started.

What scares me the most? :hmmm:

Turning them on to discover what may/may not be wrong. If there is a problem.... that mystery part is out of the way and it's just a matter of getting it done with the time I've got. :-)

Cosmetic problems can be solved usually, but it's the internal stuff that worries me.. I can do basic soldering and re-belting decks, cleaning controls etc, but replacing resistors, repairing circuit boards etc. is just scary. Also cassette decks which needs more than re-belting can get tricky as hell.

Peace

Cosmetics... is my major concern. I never buy to paint them... It should be scratch free... and no damage from water or high relative humidity..

Also I want only Virgin boxes....don't want to inherit problems...especially played with a learner who has no clue about it....and from pretenders who would attempt to fix even Boeing 777's avionics hahaha!

As my skill set has gone up so has my confidence and the level of work I am willing to do. A cheaply priced bucket of crap might be a diamond in the rough if it fits your skill set.

My eye is turning more towards the scratch and dent section!

BTW there are folks who can make these dial glasses for you. So I won't worry much!

....we need an equipment fast and and easy for this test like a continuity tester.... and signal tracer.
One can be a millionaire if you invent one.. a touchless tester for that. :w00t:

The biggest thing I look for is missing parts. These are sometimes hard to replace and more often never can be found. When it comes to the usual suspects of being stored for years in a dirty attic I think cleaning and somewhat restoring usually gets it back to decent health. I've only had a few instances where I just couldn't repair something internally and then I usually sell, trade or give it away ;)
