Yeah it is a bummer. If I had to guess, I think it has to do with the switches. There is something nasty going on with the Function, NR, and REC switches. The sound was fine when I got it, and after the mods, then one day I turn it on and the sound is funky. I will test the line-out when I get a chance, this might shed some light on it.....

Man, that's a beautiful looking M90. Congrats on a job well done!

Sorry to hear about the sound,

Two things to try out... 1) try toggling the phono/line switch on the back a couple of times and 2) put in a throw-away tape and put the deck in record mode and hit stop.

Now you got me thinking about painting up my M90....!

also check the band selector switches , these get dirty over time , i always have trouble with mine but i'm too lazy to fix it.

Thanks for the kind words and motivation.

Next step is to swap in another set of M90 speakers and see what happens......

surprisingly --cleaning just that little part has ALWAYS worked to bring m90s back to full life-
plus -as floyd said --the FM buttons often need cleaning to get clean stereo

That was the first one I did when I had the boards out. I will investigate that again.

All the switches were de-oxed from the inside of the box when the boards were out including the radio bands.

That is frequently a very difficult one to clean well. On Holly's M90, I had to disassemble the switch to mechanical scrub and grease before reassembling.

All the switches are working. The line-in/phono switch good too. The floppy speaker issue is through any audio ie; radio, line-in, cassette.

If I had some time to get these speakers swapped, it would eliminate that variable......

The blue-ish M90 speakers look better than gloss black. I also took the red plastic off the VU meters. I just wasn't feeling it.
