Hey there Fellow Boomers, I got an opportunity to pick up a Realistic SCR-8 for $75.00. The condition isn't too bad. I listened to the radio but that's it. The guy implied that the cassette worked by mentioning his buddy borrowed it for the cassette's use. The light meters worked and nothing is broken visually. I looked in the battery compartment and it doesn't show any sign of battery corrosion. I just don't know anything about the reputation or value of this particular unit. I was hoping someone could shed some light on this model. Thanks!

It's a good sounding box and those LED meters are hypnotizing!
That's a good price if the cassette works, more often than not the cassette isn't functioning on these units..
Sometimes it's just the belts worn out, other times its the mechanism..
Great box to carry around outdoors with a custom strap that clips on the corners..

$75 sound good to me if it looks good. Don't expect the deck to work though. This model has a particular quirk in the mechanism that busts over time. There have been some creative fixes that I've seen but doubtful any of them could be trusted to last for too long with regular use.

Hey Thanks Guys! That's good information. I'm not too concerned about the cassette deck because I'm more of a bluetooth smartphone type of guy. but I do like to tinker as well. Maybe I'll go ahead and get it. Thanks again.

The nice thing is it's fairly common so help threads and replacement parts aren't too impossible to find. I see a tape transport on fleabay for $12.

Would love to own one someday, I have a thing for wide LED meters :-)

Like the others said, the decks have issues, on mine the door latch is warn and the door won't close all the way leaving the cassette door misaligned.

But there are plenty of people doing bluetooth mods.

As far as I am concerned, those LEDs are the best in the biz! :cool:

The blue is really really nice...i'm going to do my other SCR-8's all different colors i think :lol:

CAM016381.jpgJust wanted to update the situation on my interest of buying a Realistic SCR-8. I bought it!!! And everything works and is in tact. No corrosion in the battery compartment It's got a few "nicks" on the dial where it looks like someone tried to pry off the dial glass. The battery compartment cover rattles a bit, but some foam tape should take care of that. Other than that, it looks pretty new (ish). And the sound, oh the sound is oh so sweet. The only thing sweeter than the sound is the fact that I asked the guy if he'd take $60 for and he said "sure, why not". Thanks for your input "Boomers". Thanks a lot!
