What is the difference between these two boxes? I am 99% sure I am picking up a REALISTIC 14-778A on tuesday and now searching for some info on it I keep getting results for the scr 8.

If you have some input on either box, all is welcome.

What would be a decent price for the 14-778A $50ish? Mint condition, original owner, no damage, everything works.

Thanks guys ;-)

Yep. Same exact box.

The 14-*** is just a Realistic cataloging number. Other catalog numbers include 42-***, 33-***, etc.

Cool, I just called the guy and sent him an offer.

Why the two different #s for the realistic bbx? There must be something different....

Nope the SCR-8 is the Model number scheme it was sold by but Fatdog is right that the other numbe is the catalogue number that Radio Shack used, is basically an SKU number. If you see an SCR-# turn it around and look at the label on the back and you'll see they have that catalogue number.

Good luck blu I hope you get it.

That's awesome blu, both boxes for $75? If that Maggie is minty like the SCR-8 you just scored big.

Now get over there and get them before he changes his mind or some tool emails him to tell him he could get 4 times as much on ePay.

Yeah, I might make the trip there tonight and just take care of it.

The "Maggie" is in good condition but needs a tape belt, battery door, and antenna. No damage otherwise, so it is a little project box but a good start for now.

Yep, $75 for the 2 boxes

KICK A$$, You'll have to do a review of that Magnivox. I have been looking at them for some time.

As for that SCR-8. I love that box. Was a dream of mine to own one since a kid and now I do! Got it from Sinister in fact. I use it all the time. Everything said above it correct. It's such a classy box.

I promise you, you will experience two things when you get this box into a social environment.

#1 people can not take their eyes off those huge LED VU's. They are just the coolest.

and

#2 someone will come up to you and say "Man, I used to have that radio when I was kid, I haven't seen that in years".

I think they must have been very popular radios, because they seem very abundant and usually well taken care of.

You can find more info on your new SCR-8 here at http://www.radioshackcatalogs.com Look for it in 1983

Thank you for the fantastic link! I didn't know the SCR-8 came with the shoulder strap brackets! I was just saying in another thread how nice it would be to own one of the strapped boxes  .

Both boxes are home safe and sound. The Magnavox needs a little more TLC. It plays tapes but no sound just scratchy-ness. I will try the line in to check for smp condition. It seems you have to turn it up a lot before you really start to hear it. I will update on that later.

The SCR-8 is a very professional looking box. The meters are fantastic and the tinted glass on the cassette door is classic. I am very pleased with my purchase. Thanks for the tips guys. - JOE :breakdance:

PS, bigger speakers with a real moving surround on them would do wonders for this box. The magnavox is a little bigger but also a little lighter.

Think GE Blockbuster and you'll know it has potential for improvement, the GE is the same basic box but different looser woofs and there is definitely a difference in the bass although it's a little to loose for some tastes.
