On a trip to Taos, NM visiting Earthship Biotechture. We’re staying in the Phoenix and YEAH I had to bring a boombox! This Yorx K6061 is small enough to pack in a medium sized suitcase. Playing 8-tracks. You have to open every new 8 track and fix the pads and the splice or there could be trouble. Once fixed, you should get another 30 years!

The Phoenix can be found here: https://www.earthshipglobal.com/the-phoenix-earthship

Earthships capture rainwater and filter it. Use that water four times before it leaves the building (1st for drinking and washing, then watering plants inside, then filtered for flushing toilets, then outside into a septic that feeds landscape plants. Any extra water not used for the toilet goes straight to the landscape plants.

Earthships stay 70F temps inside, year round without heating and A/C. They use solar to heat water and the plants clean the air inside. They are hurricane and tornado proof and resist fire.

We’re building one right now, so we visit for ideas!

We’re at a restaurant in Golden Colorado called the Sherpa House. Look what’s in the front room!

Sony's sports range is pretty iconic
I wasn't so sure for a long time, whenever I saw a box like this I thought of Noddy's car as it looked more like a kid's toy.

As it turns out, I rushed to judgement without the benefit of hearing one in person but now my view has changed. It may look like a kid's toy but it sounds all grown up despite being a Tone box. The sound is much more punchy & 'in your face' (in a good way) than I expected, it will pump out a surprisingly high volume before even thinking of distorting the sound and it knocks the spots off minis such as the Sharp QT-250 which this Sony will replace in my bathroom. The dual position handle was also an unexpected bonus, the radio looks a lot less 'Noddy' when the handle's fitted to the end! :-D In fact, I like this mini so much I already have another of the same model on it's way to me.

It's (almost) twins! Both are Sony CFS-930S models but with the earlier model (going by the serial numbers) having a black rubber gasket around the inside of the deck door opening & the battery cover opening with an added feature of a toggle type closing (closing only, not opening) section on the deck door with brass catches. The newer model relies on a more complex profile acting as more of a baffle than a seal. Apart from these differences the boxes are the same with a handle that can be unscrewed and fitted to the R/H end.

Any colour differences are purely down to the hopeless amateur who took the photographs!
