.......and ONLY ONE at THAT! :-O  :-D

But then again, the amps are more robust so they might not need 'em to get loud. But for the best bass, fat caps keep the amps from sounding starved.

Does anyone here have subwoofers in their car? You would need one these to keep your headlights from dimming whenever beat knocks.

As soon as Norm explained to me it was the same concept boombox sized, I understood.

EGGZACTLY MUNDO!

When high current demands hits due to the low HZ bass excursions, current starvation can actually be seen as a dimming of the lamps (if lamps are on). Large capacitors release energy as needed to smooth out those bumps in the energy supply.

If anyone has an RX-7700, then you already KNOW what I"m talking about. Crank it up past 1/2 way and it will begin to sound a bit crappy, especially with the bass up. With the dial lamps on, you can actually SEE the weak notes. It's running LOW on juice. Unfortunately, I have NOT had the chance to address that issue on my 7700 yet. But suffice it to say that a cap replacement is gonna be Priority One on my Panny's.

Probably why redbenjoe (and a few others) like the sound of the S90 so much. With a a pair of TA7205AP's into 2.5ohm woofers, the amps are not remarkable. But I have a feeling those caps contribute to provide that warm deep bass (at lower/medium volumes).

No, the amplifier design and signal path components define that, not the size of the bulk capacitance of the power rails. Bulk capacitance only keeps rectified voltage ripple at low values and maintaining smooth DC rails with minimal harmonics.

Power dipping is due to poor circuit and power line distribution node traces through out the printed circuit boards and connectors. Bulk capacitance in remote areas help reduce the dipping effect but does not solve the power distribution problems with layout, in which, most were not done with the advanced CAD tools we have today, most were done by hand back in the day.

... (Seriously....I can appreciate what you guys do!!! :-D )
I can appreciate it too. I just can't understand it. :dunce:

I think somewhere in there lies the mystery of the universe, and it has something to do with boomboxes. That is all I was able to translate.
