Hey Ford-Did you hear I have a M-90 now!!
Just got to get the deck going other than that it sounds great!!
Got to get it serviced and somehow clean the speakers-only on the outside though.
Very clean inside and the speakers are really in good shape other than the fronts being jkind of dirty.
Couple of small stains on the top but other than that' it's all there except for the antennas and I'm working on that now.
I just can't wait to get this all going!!!
Have a great one-nice to see you around again-GB. :-)

This is a treasure hunt, if it was as easy as going to the market and picking one up for a few dollars whenever you wanted wouldn't that get kind of boring. Most of us have spent insane amounts of time searching for boxes, that makes the rare find very special.
I know we'd run out of space very quickly if it were as easy as running to the market for a box whenever you wanted.
:agree: I returned from Beach and covered 4 surrounding cities and hit 11 stores. Nothing! I tried ALL the Goodwills, Salvation Army stores, Electronics repair shops, Pawn shops and a few yard sales in those areas. Nothing respectable and classic. :sadno: It'll happen. Just have to keep a your eyes open.

Adam that's quite a quest, you are a driven hunter!

You didn't find anything worth snagging? No tapes, walkmans, 80's funk, etc.?

Don't kick yourself too hard, Adam.

I know how everyone praises finding classics out in the "real world," and I've felt the euphoria that comes when it happens, but my exereience is that the score vs.time-and-energy-spent ratio is very, very low. Since time is money (and that includes driving from garage sale to garage sale, as well as cleaning up and fixing up beaters from Goodwill), in-the-wild finds end up costing a lot more than they seem at first.

Buying in-the-wild looks attractive when you hear the success stories. But it's really more like playing the lottery. You end up with a lot of ticket stubs and very few wins.

That's true but you sure can't put a price on the whole experience especially when you do find something every once in a while. :-D

P.S. The above comments don't apply to anyone who lives in Austria and has huge flea markets filled with classic and rare electronics to go to every week. ;-)

very interesting posts -- :-)

don -- :agree: it must be a VERY valuable thrill to find a mint grail in the wild- :-D

but - if you do the boomalu math;

it too easy these days to spend 20 bucks a week --on just gas
--looking all over for stuff.
at 50 weeks == we just spent $1000
(and further polluted the world)

plus the hundreds of hours we could have spent on other fun --
like baseball, sex, music etc -- like that :-)

and then --after the 1000 on gas and all those hours --
what are the chances of finding any M90 --
thats clean/good enough to be WORTH even 1/2 that thousand ??? :-D

so - unless the 'thrill of the chase'
IS the fun --and $1000 in gas == just fun money...............

Wow Ira, where do you drive? I do all of my hunting in conjunction with my daily activities so there is almost no gas cost and I don't spend hours looking, it's more like minutes because I get in and get out then back to my daily grind. I don't have any fantasies of finding an M90, C-100F or any other high end box but I do occasionally run across some good tapes, a Walkman or every once in a while a decent box like the RX-C20 I picked up.

If I devoted hours every week plus $20 in gas I wouldn't hunt for very long, I would just buy from you guys and ebay.

I won't argue with that because your right it can be to costly, that's why I very rarely ever go out just for that purpose. :-)

oh i feel bad for just walking into one pawn shop and walking out with a fully working damn near mint m90 for $250.00 bucks ,the only thing worse than that is the trc 931 i left behind for $99.00 cos i thought the price was too high ,oh well live and learn.
