I've been a fan of the CFS-77 ever since I picked one up in decent shape, they may not be loaded with features but they look and sound good.
I just missed out on a beautiful example on eBay when the high bidder backed out, the seller sent second chance offers to the next two bidders but I was to slow.

I like the look of the Sony, going to give it a full try out tonight.
out of curiosity what would it cost for a nice working one? I bought the sony and jvc off the same person (who keeps an eye out for me) but has wised up that they are collectible and some fetch a decent price.... I dont get the $30 trc-931's anymore from him
I paid $100 for both

It looks different, okay. But I love this design and the sound is pretty good.
And I love the way the tape door opens. It feels like a Hifi System - very smooth and it slides out a bit... Very unique for a boombox.
All I know is that some 838's have shortwave and others don'ttmlfan said:I read that
The “JW†suffix meant that the boombox could be used at 110 volts or 220 volts AC.
what does the "II" part mean in the model # JVC RC-838JW II ?
does anyone know this?
