Hi everyone,
Yesterday I bought the biggest and probably most powerfull ghettoblaster from Philips; the D8644 SUPER POWER COMPO SOUNDMACHINE. Quite some names haha.
When I got home I immideatly opened it up and changed the orange “cheese” gears in the RTS tape mech. Well applied some silicone grease and a new belt.. Then i was about to close the mech and screw it back. Made sure the lever for the record switch was alligned and screwed it all in place. THEN; play, ff, rew, stop and eject all work. (Had to also replace motor with a donor d8644, because it had speed problems) But when trying to record, the previous recording won’t get erased and the sound that is being recorded, is kinda distorted. Well, not listenable. Used contact spray in the record switch bar on the top pcb and on all the “potshovers” (volume, eq, rec level, knobs which shove instead of turn) and all crackles were gone and REC level shows on the vu when pressing record. But the problem remains. It plays tapes perfectly tho..
My previous D8644 (which had a cracked take up spindle, because i put a wrong screw in the wrong hole haha, thats Why i bought the new one) had the same issue. If I were to clean the heads even more, I’m afraid they Will evaporate from that much alcohol hahaha
Hope someone can help me out..
