Another one of our members asked if there was anything i could do for his M90. It was busted, beat down, and has no power to the cassette deck.

I knew i would do some body work on it even though he sent me a replacement front M90 panel. His original one overall the text and condition is way better than his spare. Plan is to get the front case looking better then get into the cassette functions.

I don't do restorations for people because i don't want to be responsible if something gets wrecked. This one i will do what im comfortable with and thats it. I already see someone has been messing with the cassette mech so i really dont know if i want to get into it. We will see.

OUCH!!! And you say that's better than the spare??? Although in the end I suppose that could be made to look nice, if as you say the text on this one is better.

Looks like it took a nice face-plant. the rest of it looks pretty good from the first pic.

The text is waaaaay better on this broken front. The spare front needs a full repaint and all the text is trashed anyway. The broken front will only need non text sections of it repainted so it will look much better when complete.

That's good, and you have plenty good lines to stop the paintwork if you have a good match. Good luck, post up some of the process if you get a chance.

^ don't forget the Panasonic RX-5050 has the same volume pot as the JVC M90 . It does work but you lose the balance function on your M90. Also the notch In the volume knob start's at 6 and goes down around past full.

Better than nothing.

Very few pots are specific to a particular device, order by value, whether it's linear or logarithmic and what size it is. Spindle length isn't an issue as most are nylon these days though if it's a splined spindle with a split it can't be shorter or more than a few thou' longer.

Post pictures of the pot you have, stating linear or log, value in KΩ and someone will find a match somewhere. I know that RS Components' overseas shops aren't as good at supplying parts these days but here they still are and Maplin does international mail order too. ;-)
