hey guys.
Got a Panasonic RX 5050 and a Magnavox D8443 in the mail yesterday, and both have a few problems (as expected). The Panasonic won't record properly, all tapes just get a muffled tape deck noise recorded onto them. Also, it won't run off battery power. Aside from that the outside is also REALLY dirty! what's a good product to use to take a layer of thick dust and nastiness off without doing too much damage to the plastic?
The Magnavox has an interesting problem as well. When I hit play with the power switch in the "OFF/Tape ON" position, nothing happens. When I hit the button over to ON and go through AM/FM, it plays fine. The oddest thing is that, although the tape deck makes no noise like it would if it were a broken belt, every time i return the switch from the OFF/Tape ON position from playing the radio, the tape drivers turn a little bit. When I have it in play/ff they move forward, and when it is in rw they move the other way. Anyone know what could be causing this? I'm gonna go get some contact cleaner and a screwdriver and see what I can do. I'm wondering if the tape deck just has a bad power connection or something.
These are my first 2 boxes to crack open (I know I bit off a lot to chew, esp with the Magnavox), so any help would be appreciated!!! Hope you guys are having a good weekend.
