Hi, I've seen a Panasonic SG-550L (which I believe is the Uk version of the SG-500) in a junk shop, it looked in good condition, aerials ok, paint perfect etc, but I didn't have time to test it out, and in my hurry to leave I didn't ask what the price was.

I've read a little bit about this box and it seems quite valuable, especially as a 1 piece box with a built in turntable.

Do you think it would be worth picking up? I'm not sure I have the space for it at the moment as i'm currently staying with friends as I have no flat of my own for a few weeks, but if anyone is after one of these i'll happily pick it up, test it, clean it up and ship it out for a good price.

So does anyone have this box, is it worth picking up? To keep or just to sell on?

thanks

btw I posted about this in the for sale section, but it was either deleted or it never posted as it doesn't exist anymore, so if a mod did delete it, could they let me know

If you need a cheap portable turntable then pick it up... It only has TONE control and LOUDNESS buttons..
The only reasons I still have mine is because its in excellent condition and was given to me by my mother who has owned it since I was a kid...
Decent radio, but far from a boombox

i agree with justcruisin-its just a nice, cheap, user friendly portable turntable that does the job-look at it this way its a lot cooler than one of those old dansette record players from the sixties-i know, ive had several!ive also had the panny sg 500,and the sg550,which adds the ambience (stereo wide)feature-got mine individually for 5 to ten pounds each-saw one guy on a carboot asking 25 quid for one last year  i just said thanks but no thanks at that price-
so if you can bag it for under a tenner then go for it-at that price theres nothing to lose

I forgot that it has a MIC input, so with a 1/8 to 1/4 plug you can hook up an MP3 player..

I need to take mine apart someday and clean all the switches...

i had one and the ... i think 700? with the eq both didnt have hardly any bass to them but, they were solid uints. I wish they had magnetic cart instead of ceramic so they were easier on LP's though.

ive had two of these, neither impressed me that much to be fair-BUT,as a reliable way to play your vinyl on the move, then its an ideal cheaper alternative to a vz-just dont really expect much bass and you woulnt be dissapointed-not one of panasonics finer moments these sadly, but if the pric is right-cheap-its worth getting to spin the vinyl if nothing else ;-)
