Opinions on the JVC RC-656

Ive seen a few of these pop up for sale recently at fairly reasonable prices (certainly compared its bigger brothers) and thinking about getting one.
Ive never owned any JVC boxes but ive always got the impression that they are good build quality and sound on all models.

I've owned the radio and was very impressed with it's sound. It made me check out it's bigger siblings. They don't dissapoint. The only one that I keep missing is the M70. So I don't know what that sounds like yet. I own the M90 and have had the "El Diablo". THEY ROCK HARD!! Buy with confidence. Where ever it falls short is where it's bigger brothers pick up from. I've got one and like it - well made & solid and feels it - good sound and just looks good

worth having a clean one in your collection but don't pay sllly money for it as some on the bay are just high hopers

it is a nice solid feeling box -
great size and weight to carry -
the sound is fine --but not so thrilling..
so -- dont pay alot

on this model and also on the m50
jvc FORGOT the balance control

I just got two for 40 quid

they're great solid boxes

sound great - grills do look a little sucky

but they got twin aerials and "dobly" - what's not to like?

They re great boxes! I like the look of the 656L II and the 656 LB II. Here re some pics.

i agree, the plastic grills ain't the best, but i wouldn't pass one up if it was cheap

just record your tapes properly in the first place!

hmmmmmmmmmmm Not sure i'd ever want to record broadcasts with any boombox - when I have decent seperate kit

You'd have to be pretty dedicated to want to use a box for "hi fidelity" - i don't think even my wm-DC6 - has rec balance and that is supposedly "pro kit"

i think the 656 is one of the chosen few jvc models ive never had-come close on ebay in the past but always been outbid into cant afford territory-which is why i gave up on ebay ages ago-id consider it from the reviews ive read and the pictures i ve seen to be a nice,smaller and well-sounding box,and if i could find one cheap,id have me one.i just love that american spec one with the woofers on show-looks way nicer than the european version with enclosed woofers-squint and its almost an m50-another jvc ive never scored

CB --thats right - the famous pro sony 6c has no recording balance -

for 'serious' portable recording -
i use the bigger sony TC 5 which does have separate controls and meters

good answer - but the dc-5 didn't take metal tapes

I love my DC-6

Thanks for the info and pics, the round speaker grill versions are loads better looking, ive seen one before especially in the UK so dibs Blasterpunk if you ever fell like moving on one of those
