We all know that it's the chase and finding a new box that can be a thrill - trying to hunt out or bid on a box can raise the heart rate !

But when looking, do you think that you will find what you are after before some one else ?

Then when you have found that box, what makes you gt another one the same ? if you have it already then why a second or a third or even more than that !

Now i'm not having a go (so don't moan about this thread cos that's not the point of it)

so why get another of the same one (not the same in a different make) - what makes you do it ?

second part of this thread is again not to out people and have a go it just out of wondering - so again don't go blow over it !

so what boxes do you have copy's of - more than one !

cheers B :ninja:

For me it all depends on the price - if the price is good then yes please I'll have another. Not likely to buy a 2nd unit of anything I already have on eBay, due to the prices.
Right now the only box that I have a dup of is the Kaboom, and even then they are different models numbers.

one for the shelf
one to use
one to customize
one to give away to a friend
one for spare parts

There are some boxes

The few 'doubles' that I own have all been significant improvements over the exisiting box I own of that type, either cosmetically or technically.

That said, I wouldn't pass up the chance to grab any box I already own if it was a 'no brainer' price, but I wouldn't actively seek another of my exisiting boxes just for the sake of it.

A couple of excellent points already made.

1) If the price is right why not buy 2, 3, 4 or more.
2) If you find one in better condition than the one you already have.

Let me add that if you don't pick up that cool 30 year old box at a garage sale, flea market or ? then it may end up in the trash and I would rather see large collections of duplicate boxes than singles if it meant more would be saved.

I only collect doubles if I get one locally/in the wild after already picking one ujp previously, it's rare I'll buy a second off ebay for 'collectors prices'.
When I do get a double out of the wild I keep it for trade, or customising.
Then on rare occassions I've bought doubles with the intention of custom painting one, such as my 2nd M90.

There are certain radios I wouldn't mind having half a dozen of, however. DiscoLites would be a radio I'd never knock back!

I have just one twins couple. Just didnt get enough power to NOT buying the second one. But if im buying the second one its goin to be for some trade or just to save her. No point for me to have the same boxes. Its better to trade em for something that dont have. Im not valuing boxes with money or something else. Will buy any good box in the wild if i have cash, the price is good and will resell for the same amount of money to other brother. If its better example will keep it for me and trade/sell the "old" one :-D . But in general never goin to buy more than one of a kind if satisfied with my box condition.
my twins: (and one of them was present to my girlfriend so there is some reason to have the second :-P )

Agree with both.
1) I'll buy a duplicate if I see it at a way better price than one I bought for more.
2) Sometimes I'll buy duplicates until I get one that's perfect!

it will get even harder to find parts for our 25-30 year old collections -
so any box we like alot --could // should have a double or triple

Having more than one of your favorite box means that you can share with someone else, trade or friends, without that feeling of having lost your personal grail. It's a good deal all around to have a spare.

Yeah, I totally agree. With my TRC-920, I have a few chassis, 3 amp boards, 3 spare decks, power supply's, knobs, switches....you name it I got spares!

Still need a few all running too!

My 920 will be running in the year 2083 for the 100th year anniversary! :-D

I have 2 HK-9000's. 2 GF-777's (1 brand new in the box!) For me it was part nostalgia and the 2nd it was price. I just couldn't pass it up. Both are in very good condition. No complaints! You just sometimes gotta jump on the opportunity when it comes calling.

I have 5 disco robos now

first one ebay, always wanted one so pulled the trigger

#2 +3 ebay as parts/ fix ups, one unit was ok the other was incompleate. I didnt pay much for the two

#4 thrift shop find, robo in red @ $30 au had to have it

#5 I found recently very cheep, busted outer case. With this and # 2 + 3 I can make two compleate units with some left over parts

I have given Sony APM Fan some parts to compleate his unit as well, but for under $185 AU for 5 Robos in various states of repair (2 are perfect) I think it would have been silly to pass these up.

Would I get more robos, sure if I find them for the right price.
Do I need more robos, no. :hmmm: there is green, white, red, grey and I belive blue so let me change that to yes

Whats everyones thoughts on collecting colour varients of the same box? Would this be considered "model hoarding"?

As far as I'm concerned if the radio is a different colour then it's a different radio and not technically a multiple.

I'll take a yellow or red spare Robo off your hands if you find one, thanks TSHORBA!!
