Hey everyone,

this question just came up in my head
Yesterday we had a blast outside messing around with the GF9696, Crown 850 and the VZ2500. Boy, it was a lot of fun.
But later on somebody wanted to play CDs (I know, pathetic!).
I just wonder if there is a boombox that looks just as good as the ones mentioned above but that has a (hidden ;-) ) CD player built in?
Please help me out, you guys with catalogues and large collection  !

Something like this idea of a GF-9696CD  (badly photoshopped by me)

Fall in Love with the RX-DT707and become a man of the egg era, widen your horizon and knowledge and the CD abilities will follow.

The RX-DT707 looks interesting but there is no way I am going to fall in love with the egg era
I will continue hiding my iPod behind the boombox that is playing it with its line-in

You should look into the Panasonic RX-DT680... It's a three piece with a tape and CD player and very good sound. It doesn't have the retro look of the classic sharps or crowns, instead it is one of those very clean, all-black designs. I heard Ford93's and it does sound quite respectable.

And my thoughts on the RX-DT707 is that it looks more like of a cigar shape than an egg. That's how I rationalize adding that one to my collection. Plus, it has that unique top that opens up... The cool thing about the DT707 is that it not only has a CD & line-in, it also has two auto reverse tapedecks. Unfortunately, my DT707 has all kinds of issues. The top doesn't open/close properly, I can only get one of the tapes to play, and only in one direction (needs belts on all) and the CD player must be pushed in manually for the last inch of the drawer travel to accept the CD load. The CD does play, though... and it sounds fantastic, despite that it was probably dropped a few times along the way... It came to me in this condition and makes for a great garage box.

:-P :-D

the egg is a great box it may not appeal to everyone but if you hear it you will like it   that lasonic is a nice one but real hard to find and the real way is to hook an external cd mp3 player to your boombox which will work also :w00t:

Have you thought of getting a beater and do a mod with it?

For example, take a used CD-ROM unit from an old computer laying around and try to adapt it to the Bombox and see if it works! I don't know ANYTHING about electronics, but friends like :super: here might be able to give you some tips on that kind of project! :hmmm: ;-)
