Yeh, when they put a CD player in a boomer, they often removed any aux/phono-in.
Probably a combination of:
- Save money wherever possible (as was the norm at the 'decline & fall' time) to help pay for the CD transport.
- Caught up in the 'CD is the ultimate, vinyl is dead, you'll never need anything else ever'. The word 'futureproof' didn't exist back then :-)

Panasonic did this with the RX-DT series (& the Cobra-tops too, I think) - a real shame. All my Hitachi 3Ds with a CD have no aux in, apart from the very earlist one (CX-W800).

Anyway, blu_fuz sorry to hear about the damage & hope it's not too bad...

:agree: Shame that they and other manufacturers didn't think about keeping line-in jacks due to future technologies that would eventually show up.
Still, digital cassettes and minidisc players were probably out at that time... Either one of those could've taken off. :-/

My Panasonic RX-DT707 Cobra still has aux in and mic mixing :-D

Well, so far so good kinda..... The transformer and that speaker are the only 2 things in that section of the boombox so no other elecronics were broken WHEEEEW! .

I had to fix 12 broken mounting posts for the back case, the speaker, and even the CD player mounting setup :dunce: . What a chore that was :annoyed: .

So, all the plastic is curing right now so it is good and hard for re-assembly sometime this week.

I did find 3 small springs laying inside the case and 2 of the CD function buttons are missing. I knew one was missing but not 2, so maybe one is laying in the cardboard box that it was shipped in.....

Also, NO TWEETERS!!!! There is a nice spot for them where the chrome caps were glued in the boombox :dunce: ...... I have some here from my 922 partout that I will add  .

I've got my hands full with it because there are NO parts for these CDX-931 boxes :sadno:

Anyway, off to bed :superduper:

PS, NORM - you are going to have to help me out good buddy getting a line-in on this beast.

That's a mostly positive update!

These are very rare indeed. Interesting they pulled the ol' TRC-920T with no tweeters! Glad to hear your fixing that issue

Ummmmm...how many Lasonic's do you have now?

I think I have 8 Lasonics..... Just sold a 935 to a member here so I would have had 9, but it went to a new home and was a double for me.

Yeah, it is good news. At least the cosmetics are being fixed pretty easily. I will fire it up when I mount the transformer, speaker, and CD player again. The belts on the cassette decks look to be new even but the previous owner said they didn't work :hmmm: . Maybe those springs I found have something to do with that.....

Do the decks resemble any of your other Lasonic's decks? Maybe you can use them as a example to see where things go

I hope you get her all up and running again!

You know what, it actually belonged to a member here and they had it listed on craigslist about a month or two ago for $200 I believe is what he was asking.

Here is an old for sale thread from that seller:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5189&hilit=cdx

Here is the vid he made:

Good thing I didn't pay more than 1/6th of the price (including shipping) he was originally asking for it :dunce: .

I did put it somewhat back together tonight and looked at the cassette mech's in this CDX-931 and a TRC-975 I also have opened up. The dual cassette decks are ALMOST identical but I still couldn't tell where 2 of the small springs came from :dunce: .

The 3rd spring I found out is for the right cassette door. Both cassettes make noise when you put a tape in, but they are no good for any real function right now. The belts look fantastic on them though :hmmm: .

I did get to test the CD and RADIO, but the volume knob potentiometer must be going to **** on the left channel :dunce: . Sometimes both sides work, most of the time not  . Hopefully there is a matching potentiometer in my 922 parts box :-O .

But anywho - this box does sound pretty good. I didn't add the tweeters yet but it REALLY needs them  . All functions seem to work besides the cassettes and the CD player does work but will randomly skip as many songs as it wants even though you pushed the button one time :dunce: . Probably dirty....

Overal - I'm happy I didn't pay a whole lot for it. If a MINTY one of these showed up in fully working condition I would not hesitate to spend $100+ on it. It is soooooo ugly that it is beautiful  .

I wonder if some of those problems happened because of the damage it took during shipping... :hmmm:

You talking about the volume knob issue? If yes, it seems that in his original ad he said that it had some issues. But, if you are talking about all the other problems, I'm sure it's because of the shipping damage :dunce: . He's a "ding dong ditch" kind of seller; there until he gets his money, then vanishes into thin air like he never existed when there are problems :annoyed: . EH, whatever. Just another box I have here to repair...... I might start to do what you do MONO and just wait for mint fully working units and hope my pockets are deep enough to buy it :w00t: . LOL
