It would seem a check of my Sanyo M7735 turned up a piffling little fault in that the left channel had gone dead...

Tried cleaning the volume slider to no avail - likely made it worse. Oh well, there's one on eBay for a low enough bid...
One week later...
The new box arrived yesterday and its tape drive won't give any sound - radio worked fine. Checking the old box by feeding its line output to my Sanyo C-2's line inputs and its delivering signals through both channels. Took the volume slider board from the 'new' M7735 and soldered in the defective boards place on the old box. Worked a treat!
And I'll have spare bits should the need arise. This is not as service-friendly as my Toshiba!
