So guys.....Im gonna need some more info. Sorry but I need to get this right. Im a complete Mp3...Ipod numbskull. I dont know a thing about them other than they are todays Walkmans. Sooooo I need to know whether I can buy pretty much anything on the market for the use I need it for (ie Plugging it into my Hitachi to play my music collection)
I recognise those leads but dont have a cluse about connections. People I have collared who own Ipods only have USB cable facilities on them. I dont want an Ipod for anything other than this sole purpose ao if anyone feels compelled to lay down the law I'd be grateful. I cant afford to waste money on something I would ordinarily avoid if its not gonna do the job.

Cheers fellas..........

Any MP3 player that has a regular headphone jack that you can plug that RCA jack converter thingy into will work fine.

Cool, so does it mean in simple terms that the stereo acts in the same way as headphones? An outlet for the Ipod?

Hey J

In these pics ive got an ipod (but it could be any mp3 player, portable CD or anything with a 3.5 headphone socket), 3.5 to phono/line in lead and a boombox.

The following is kind of assuming your Hitachi is roughly the same layout as the TRK-8800 im using for pics.
The red and white leads plug into the back of the boomer the single ended small plug goes in the ipod.
Select phono/line in on the fuction switch on your boomer and on the back of the boomer, close to where you pluged in the red and white cables, you should find a switch marked phone/line in, select line in.
Switch on ipod, select about half volume and press play. Switch on boomer, that should be it.

Hey man.

Thanks so so so much, I am truly grateful for yr help. It just leaves me to ask what the cable is that links the 2? I tried it tonight with my decks into the Hitachi but it didnt like it, muffled sound. Also the wire you show is and has to be single jack (Into Ipod and double jack at the other end for the Boombox, Would I get this in Maplins for example? If so Im gonna need a name to ask in shop I guess.

extremely helpful.....I will get there with yr help guys...It might be painful to watch but.......................

Some boomers have two lots of inputs on the back, one for phono and one for line in, others just share one input but have the line in/phono switch.
On the back of the boomer i used both inputs where black but marked L and R. Most are coloured red and white like below.

Also ignore the toaster, its nothing to do with it

Any other q's, dont hesitate mate :-)

Your decks sound muffled because of the differance between mp3 players (line in device) and record players (phono device) i cant explain, but others on here understand it all and can explain better than i, im a novice on this aswell
I think the leads called 3.5 to phono lead or 3.5 to red/white rca lead, im not sure, i know if i see but sure of name, pretty sure maplins will it.

Nope................

£6 on a 3.5mm stereo to twin phono lead and all I get is muffled music much the same as when I ran my decks through. It is going through but is so badly muffled its pointless.

Any suggestions welcome.

Well........tried tried and tried again...........my stereo, decks and Ipod just make a muffled noise......its awful. Ive followed instructiuons and twiddled knobs and switches......its not rocket science but its lookin more like its gonna be tapes for me which is a good job I landed a cheap charity shop stereo with cassette player............shame as I would have liked to do the ipod, so much easier and time saving.

Anyway cheers for the advice guys.

Hey J, sorry your still having probs mate, if you cant get the line in to work there are two other options although both have drawbacks.

Get an fm transmitter. The cost and quality of these varys quite a bit, but basicly you plug it into ipod, tune it to a frequency, switch on your radio (fm) then tune radio to same frequency. Your ipod will be playing through your radio.

or

Get a cassette adaptor. The cost and quality of these varys quite a bit aswell, you plug into ipod then shove the cassette in your boomer and press play, downside being the door may not shut properly.

Both these items were fairly cheap on ebay, fm trans about £8, the tape adaptor about £3. but both are low quality and well, you get what you pay for.
