When I decided to be more selective in my collecting mid last year I decided to keep to big one piecer's and high end quality 3 piece models from the more Hi-Fi brands. This past couple of weeks has seen some lovely additions to these high-end 3 piecers in my collection to sit nicely along side my Denon, Technics and Pioneer boxes. I know they're called 3 pieces but truth be told all these 3 boxes below break down into 4 or more pieces.
The Sansui came home thanks entirley to esteemed brother Aza who offered me this wonderful radio after I missed the auction and he picked it up. My eternal thanks to him, she's definitely found a good home!
Here comes the pix!
The glorious Sansui CP-5. A real powehouse that is pure quality. My favourite tape eject mech ever too, feels like SILK!
Very clever design that allows the handle to be taken apart and stored in the battery compartment. This beauty is super-powerful and boasts a lot of low end. Clean design and quality tape controls and deck, very lovely! She's in wonderful condition, a little bit of damage to one edge of a speaker box and a little bit of patina here and there on the controls, but overall a killer specimen. Thanks again AZA!!
This is a personal grail for me! I've always been in looove with these ridiculously high featured Sony's since they came out and was always blown away by how they managed to pack so many features into a portable. I've got a very, very short list of Sony's I've decided I need in the collection but this was at the top. Where to begin with this that hasn't already been covered a million times in every other FH post? Well, the sound is simply some of the best I've heard in a portable, easily in my top 5, but the punch, that real "OOMPH' is always present in everything she cranks out. The spectrum analyzer is as mesmerisingly beautiful as I could've ever hoped too. I must mention the decks on these units. How they managed to cram two completely logic controlled decks into the space available is simply breathtaking. All the deck keys on the doors just blew my mind and made me ETERNALLY grateful that the deck's are all working 100% as I wouldn't know where to begin with it if they needed fixing. The only issue is a connection problem in the ribbon cable going to the tape deck which needs to be wiggled a bit, but I'll be taking care of all that tomorrow. The cosmetic condition is 100% and theres nary a scratch or mark on her as well. And the price for this wonderful exponent of barely portable audio? 50bux + delivery!! I love ebay the week before xmas!
And lastly, but certainly not least is my freshly acquired Marantz PM326. Super quality build, with all three components RCA connected in the back, and truly a heavy-weight. She's only small, but is PACKED with gorgeous design and deep, rich sound.
Although there's no spatial, or similar effect, the output is very, very wide and defies the design of this little powerhouse. As an extra bonus she came from the original owner who included the 3 manuals for each component too, which was fantastic. The overall cosmetic condition is as close to mint as any of my radios with a couple of tiny marks. The deck needs a little bit of work, but nothing too extensive, I'll be dropping her off to my repairer's tomorrow as she's already had me befuddled after rebelting her. Also of note is she came with a plastic clip on shell that covers over all the cabling in the back neatly for much easier portability, a feature more 3 piecer's could definitely use! The power setup is cleverly designed too as the battery compartment sits in the cassette deck compartment and a lead then runs from that to power the amp. Some real creativity went into this radio's design and I'm all the more appreciative of it for the effort!
Hope you guys enjoyed!
Rock On.
