As of right now, there is absolutely NO DEFINITE way to ship a large boombox from the U.S. to Australia for $200 or below. I'll even post the shipping quotes I received for my box weighing in at 31 lbs. with dimensions of 34x19x11 in. I'd love to be proven wrong.

Proper packing is essential to ensure the boombox arrives in one piece. Especially when dealing with Lasonics and others in their class. There is NO WAY I'd ship them with one layer of bubble wrap and expect a cardboard box to handle the rest of the protection duties. These things are known to break apart just shipping them around within the Continental U.S. I cannot, in good conscience, ship somebody something they've paid for with their hard earned money, knowing it's going to arrive at their doorstep damaged. Much less, risk destroying an otherwise serviceable boombox that's already endangered in numbers. What's the point?

Of course, everyone is free to make their own decisions and ship their items however they see fit.

This is proof of the pudding and why I for one cant ship abroad now..... thanks for shairing bry.... btw isnt this a quote on a lasonic??? i mean there light as a feather..... gawd alone knows how much a much more substntial box would cost to send.....

Tried to ship one to Australia- landed up refunding a member here (boxed out?) Even tried custom made plywood box that fit under the expensive radar- it worked- then found out that u cannot ship wooden crates to Australia- unless you agreed to have them soaked in pesticides- we all know what would happen to the box inside- they are worried about infestation of non-indigenous species . So after 30 or so e-mails, we agreed to simply give up.
When shipping from Canada, we have the option to send to our friends in the States expedited parcel- 7 to 10 business days and that is about 40 % cheaper than buying from the states shipping to Canada .Recently from the US they have limited shipping options on shipping here and around the world usually resulting in priority mail- this could be the cause of high rates shipping overseas- what used to cost $35 to ship from the states to canada now costs over $55- same weight- same package- new rates..

yep, it's totally crazy sending 'boxes from here in oz too to anyone stateside - outrageous prices, partly based on size and weight (never mind that seamail is not much cheaper!).
as a result, a friend here has decided not to sell his black NatPana rx-c100 (u know how heavy, huge that is...) to a buyer in CA, because shipping is crazy.
looks like he will have to sell it locally in oz...

I hear you.... I was quoted $90 just to ship a set of black cp7 speakers from australia and there small things.... i backed out and gave him $15 for his trouble...

Hey Rimmer36
I think that was me who won the sony speakers on ebay??
Sucks about freight hey!!

you guys could also send PMs to members Prime and AZA --
last year they traded 2 of the biggest //heaviest boxes ever !!! :-)

a panny 5350 for the mega 3 piece pioneer

Unfortunately i have to say it wasnt cheap
and it cost almost exactly the same for both myself
and Prime if i remember rightly, to Australia and from !

4 or so years ago when i first started buying from the US
it was very reasonably priced but then the US Postal
Service made some changes and anything remotely
big like a boombox suddenly cost much more.

Im not sure of the answer as to why there is such a
big difference for members here either im afraid.

It's taken 2 years and a final ammount of $605USD = $690 AUD but the best LASONIC TRC-931 I could find is on it's way to Sydney!!! :w00t:
It was alot more than I wanted to spend/could afford. Chris wants a new gun,he is a top guy and I didn't negotiate on his asking price of $450 aslong as he could help it get to me for a descent ammount$ . He persevered and through a friend of his found shipping for $153USD that includes insurance.
I will be licking my wounds and I have just added unnecessary debt well atleast that’s what the girlfriend will say but she just doesn’t understand Right?
I will post pictures once it’s arrive safe’n’sound. I can’t wait =D

SHIPPED IT OUT TODAY!! Had to call a few favors for $$$ until my paypal clears but I have shipped it :)

Grand total- $179 Even

Insurance $605=$9.and some change

Knowing it is going to the guy who finally grinded my gears down so much for two years  priceless

Here's a tip for shipping the 931

buy a new I 931- take both boxes and put the old one in (minus foam) replace with tight packed bubble wrap. insert in first box, then insert first box in shipment box (the one that is brown and says made in taiwan LASONiC corp) and then duct tape the crap put of it, put hard cardboard sheets on each exposed side and duct tape the crap out of it again, total weight should be 26lbs.

From my area 40160 it was $169 and change and after insurance $179

:) Another good reason to Buy an I-931

Hope my method works!!!

Chris. What does the online rate for that come to, and what is shipping service (priority, etc) and did the shipper explain the price difference, if any from the posted online rates?

Thanks Chris,
I am relieved it's on it's way to Australia and not AUSTRIA  haha but I'm reassured now that all is good in the hood! thanks for throwing in the extra aeriel too, I aprreciate that.

5 times, WOW you had alot of booom boxes to post? sacrifice is hard, hopefully there is a bunch of sexy college girls in your dorm when you get there my friend ;)

Cool, yeah customs will probably call me because they want me to open it in front of them and lay the cardboard on the floor so they can do the worm haha..
Don't worry Chris,It's definately going to it's biggest admirer(when I saw it,I pm'd you and broke your balls to sell it to me to which I got many rejections) and I don't think anyone has ever wanted a TRC 931 as badly as I have, when I saw your specimen for sale,I knew it was the best I would ever find and be able to get to the shores of Australia, SO I HAD TO HAVE IT!
I will look after it and take some pictures of it in the surroundings of another continent  :breakdance: :afro:
