So last night I moved RX-5350 from my bedroom into my living room, which is probably three times the size of the bedroom. Also, I listen to it from a greater distance now - and it seems that the sound quality has greatly improved. So my (unscientific) conclusion is that RX-5350 shines in bigger rooms, and shouldn't be enjoyed in the smaller ones :-D
Anyway, I was just curious if anybody else observed something similar with any boomboxes?

yes vladi especial if its against the wall or something that blocks the flow of sound coming from the rear ,,in my opinion when a box is in a room even on the floor you will notice a deferance in sound ,,once close to a wall you notice the absence of bass at least those are my observation ,, and what i suggest is to try them in any place in the house and you will notice the sound changes especially when you block the back :-)

I put my DT-680 in a corner, pump the bass and boy does it sound great, especially in the bigger rooms in the house.

terry the boxes that are 3 piece would be a bit diffrent as the speakers are enclosed ,,but the 1 piece boxes like the 5350,, m90 and so on is where you might find a bit of sound changes when you place the box in different rooms

I'll try it today with my RX-5700.

The one thing i always try to do is make sure the box is on a solid surface, if im listening to a box on the floor i always put it on a piece of wood i have rather than on the carpet.

I totally agree with the above!

I also have noticed, at least with my GF-777 that taking it out side and setting it on the ground, say in a parking lot, that it ROARS!

These machines want to be where many people can PARTY - Big rooms, Big hall, Big lots!

Yep, and on the other hand - when I listen to my smaller National Panasonix 4360 in the living room - it sounds pretty weak, but in the bedroom it sounds excellent. So now I will have to rearrange all of my boomboxes to see where which one sounds best in which room. Good thing I don't have many :-D

Vladi if I only had the willpower you have had since we started I wouldn't be fighting my boombox buying compulsion/disease. :'-(
Actually I've done well for the last 6 months or so, I've turned down a lot of good deals. In fact I've pulled myself away from eBay a lot lately and I'm mostly only visiting the thrift stores now.

Hi Vladi,

The ambience sound feature makes that difference. I have also noticed that with my RX5350.

Don, ya, I remember our discussion a while back - willpower and all - :-D
Any luck with the thrift stores? I don't have time for the thrift stores, so I'm relying on Boomboxery as far as buying :-D

Ira, you haven't sold anything in the last 4 days either - it's heartbreaking to view the *For sale* section now days, where there's nothing for sale from Florida :-D

I played with that feature, but in the end I turned it off. Which version of RX5350 do you have - National, Panasonic or NP? Or is that feature the same between the models?
