so anyway -
lucky frank already has a beautiful wife and a sexy car

that leaves -- boxes :hmmm:

and i know -- he does not have the ONE important box - that EVERY
collector ( with a brain and 2 EARS ) MUST have ! :judge:
its the lasonic 931

lucky me --i won my second 931 on ebay about a year ago-
its sounds SOLID and GREAT and WORKS ( mostly )
but came sorta for short $$ cuz it was missing 2 deck keys
( fine with me -- as the stubs worked )

so i told frank he was getting it -- he sounded thrilled :-D
we had a good firm deal

of course i KNOW he likes COMPLETE boxes -
and i ' failed to mention ' the missing keys .........

because i knew that local key man ramonchito
had some 931 keys  :surf:

WRONG   :annoyed: :sadno:

so --once again
i brave the dangerous drive up to ramons ghetto hood -- :-O
its all hookers  :w00t:
and car-jackers  around there

figured we would press fit a few keys on in 55 seconds -- :-) -- all done -

NOPE :'-(
turns out that ramons keys were from some pre- 1st gen cave man 931 !!! :annoyed:
nothing fit :nonono:
---------------------

on the sad ride home --i am in massive PANIC
because.....

frank had since opened up my gf1000 --to find it was an internally broken POS !!!
and he had posted a dozen photos all about the SEVERAL dozens of hard hours of hard work-
just to get some structure back into this basket case :'-(
PLUS the hinges plus the cracks plus the cleaning plus the painting, etc etc etc

and NFW --could i let him do all that work----------just for some common 931 with missing keys
( we ALL can get those ) :-D
---------------------------

thanks for your patience with this story --so far-
here comes the good part

i get home --pop on ebay ( as usual )
and sitting there - in the TOP row --is this NICE -- brand newly listed M71 BIN :angelic: :angelic:
the price was ok --no rip // no $score - just what we would expect for a good ebay M71 -- these days
------------------

the rest of the story is the most recent history --in THIS cool thread
another happy ending :-)

Oh yea, that rear case color is really light for the M71.

Honestly I kind of like the "no text" look on the top panel because only a real collector would know what the switches are for!

And I also like the bright ass rainbow strap with it  .

If you need a different strap, you know where to find me  :w00t:  - they come with a JVC shoulder pad now for the 1" straps.

You're just jealous because I now have the nicest restored M-71 on Boomboxery  :-P
Hit me up with some pics of the shoulder pads and staps you have in stock now
I may pick up another from you as a spare
Just in case I'm not in the mood for being "Fruity" :smooch:

Hehehehe Jealous?!?!?!?! Ok, yeah maybe a little - but at least I had a part in the resto  . My gold trims were too tarnished and the plexi too gouged to spend more time on it. Plus, when they are perfect then I don't want to take them out and use them! :nonono:

Everytime I have seen the rare M71 and it's gold color I always thought in the back of my mind that this could never be restored back to original condition because that color would be hard to match. I have seen thread with people talking about it and I thought, "Well he's gonna 'F' that up". But you pulled it off man. That color is DEAD on

Since these M71's are SOOOOO rare....I would have to say, you have the nicest one I have ever seen!

If you do end up trading -GZ- for his first born, make sure UPS doesn't pack him up and pay extra for the insurance

Very nice....especially the rear case --- now that is a proper gray.

I need a new slider board too, my RC838 sounds like ass!

Thanks Reli , it is a semi gloss granite paint color.
It looked alot darker on the cap than it does on the box!
Superduper slider board repair works great!
You should pm him to see if he could do yours.
It will greatly improve the sound because not only will he rebuild and lube your sliders to like new condition,
He also recaps the board as well for a much cleaner signal path between the pre amp and amplifier.

That is a great story Ira. Glad you guys could all be part of the restore :-)
I love the group effort. Jimmy bklyn sound also helped me out with a lot of parts for the 971
Which I am planning on finishing this weekend.

I got the same issue with my 838. I'll have to hit up Norm when he gets back, see what can be done. I have never really been a fan of sliders because when they are old, they crackle and don't slide smoothly and have dead spots. But after Norms work...they are factory or better!
