When I first heard an Aiwa of any kind it was an 880 that I heard at Norm's house. The sound of that boombox blew me away. The bass and richness is something you have to hear to believe. A radio of that size should not be able to produce sounds like that!! Well as we all know getting a fully working 880 would cost a mint, so it was put on the backburner. Then I would see comments here and there about the Aiwa 660, but the pictures made it look small so I wasn't interested yet. Then I became more curious after reading some of Skippy's comments about how much he loved the sound. I decided to take a ride over to Norm's and take a closer look (and listen).
I was very surprised at how large this radio is...it's the same width as an M70 and an inch taller. Then it was plugged in and turned on....DAMN this box sounds amazing!! The deep bass and overall richness of sound really surprised me. To me it sounds just as good as an 880. I had to have this boombox. Norm and I struck a deal and I took her home.
The boombox was 100% operational but had some areas where the paint was rubbed off and the grills had some dents. I liked the blue accents on the VU's, tuner dial, and around the speakers but the dark grey speaker grills covered too much of that pretty Aiwa blue.
I decided to repaint the whole box in a matching aluminum color and repaint the speaker grills in Aiwa blue. The back case was repainted in a metallic graphite. I am very happy with the results as she is now a looker. Her are the before and after pics....
