Don't want to soil forum with pretty old materials. I'll try to make only one thread by adding pics of different stuff.

Soviet Tom' 206S. Project, which made russian collegues very angry:
tom206s0_.jpg

Would not go through all those troubles with aluminum and plastic cutting and polishing, if i knew how hard it will be. I'm not happy with the results, especially with those function stickers. Also, the box is too heavy, sound is too poor for carrying around.

More design, DIY, than very functional thing - VEF 221 "Special Blend" :dunce: :-D . A VEF radio body with Belorus M-310C ('91) stuff inside. Still, not bad, pretty good sounding, bassy, compact iPod speakers with vol, trebble, balance and bass functions and some fake stuff added (micro cassette, broken digital VU, etc.)
Parts from this little poor thing:

Sharp GF 8989 restoration.
I received it without carying handle, cosmetical condition was pretty bad, but it was in good working order.
No clear "before" pics unfortunately. Handle from Philips donor fits very nicely:

Crazyest project so far. I would not like to try this again..
The idea was to connect (bad sounding) classic bbx shapes with newer (bad looking) egg sound quality.

Nice looking, classical body of half dead, cheap Sanyo M9800L (got it for free from relatives):

With my kitchen radio's, (also almost dead, but very good sounding) egg Goldstar CD-660A parts..

Will need only this:

A simple "line in" problem solution:

IMG_3765.jpg

Goodbye, Sanyo parts:

IMG_3773.jpg

Lucky with new speakers:

IMG_3770.jpg

All of the rest of new stuff inside:

IMG_3777.jpg

With new metal grilles instead of old plastic ones:

IMG_3775.jpg

Strange :ninja: ....It is still working
Testing "line in". With 4 position digital equalizer turned to "Rock", box sounds bassy, nice and loud.

IMG_3776.jpg

At last...finishing... New knobs layed out, some polished alu touch added:

IMG_3966.jpg

Digital radio, eq with leds are working fine..

In the pic with flash u can see the real size of the speakers (almost impossible to notice with day light):

Your projects are very inspiring.
I had started a similar project too.
Can you tell me how you attached the circuit board that was sitting on top of that last Sanyo?
And also discuss your process with the awesome little VEF radio?
Thanks

Cheers OSS :afro:

Thanks!!!
OSS, all of these boards are attached by using some original mounting holes, some angular little pieces of aluminum, or plastic and some little bolts (bottom of the Sanyo's "All of the rest of new stuff inside" pic. ). I think it is same with that upper board as well. There's couple of visible bolts on the Sanyo and Vef backs, also some of them are hidden under stickers. On the "safe places" of the boards u can drill carefully new ones, if original ones are not suitable.
Belorus box was a simple little ugly recorder without radio, but it sounded good. Cassette gear was broken, but i tryed to use it's recording function (via DIN socket) as a line in for iPod and it worked well. I removed cassette mechanism and staretd to instal 2 boards and speakers into the Vef body. Becouse of pretty limited space, two Belorus sircuit boards are mounted parallelly, that's why u can see on the Vef's top "Z" shaped placing of "vol, balance, bass, trebble" potentiometers.
Belorus speakers are attached to Vef's front panel with loads of epoxy - i wanted make that thin panel stable and more thick. I don't know if it improves the sound:].
Belorus had an external power adapter, but becouse of ugly design (white cables, red adapter), i'm trying to avoid it , Vef runs fine with 6 "D" rechargables (original Belorus used 6 "C" - lucky me with same voltage).
OSS, can u tell more about your project ? :afro: Feeling not alone
