Really? I thought the function selector on mine only says Phono. The line in would be more for recording, right? and NOT for playback?? Or did I recall wrong?

My 9696 only has phono in. And SW radio bands. No line in... I must use a phono attenuator for external devices other than turntable.

Well, I can't read Japanese but I'm pretty sure that is PHONO input and I'm pretty sure you need to wear hearing protection when operated that way..

And that is why I say dont hold back from painting over control functions!! if you bought the Japan version, you couldnt read it anyways!!

Well, I can't read Japanese but I'm pretty sure that is PHONO input and I'm pretty sure you need to wear hearing protection when operated that way..

It really works good. The mp3 player is on 80% volume, the input level is not overdriven, the VU LED's are working like in tape or FM mode.
In my opinion the sound quality is good, except the crispy trebles are a bit weak.

It was funny and I understood that you had problems with the German context...

The long forms are par example:
Was zum Teufes soll das?: What to the devil should that?
Was zum Teufes wird das?: What to the devil does that become?
Was zum Teufes ist das?: What to the devil is that?
Was zum Teufel schreibt ihr da?: What to the devil do you write there?

thanks for the pics and the info as i desided to fix the 508 which i got the 508 to finish a 9696 i have here but the color won me over so i will use parts out of the 9696 to get my 508 100% or close to it

I have to do some work on my GF 508 SB too. Put a GF 9696 power supply in it and clean it up a bit.

Thanks for this tip. It looks like the 508 is equipped better than the 9696. The power switch is designed better too.
The GF 9696 power switch is pretty fragile.
