thanks guys.
overall impressions of it so far are this.
tuner is extremely good. excellent reception on all bands including shortwave. very nice fm sound and very good fm stereo.
power is plentiful and it can run pretty loud . loudness is very good in the bottom third of the volume scale but find it pointless to have it on past the midway point i think loudness should not be used past fifty percent volume in any case.
thats personal choice tho.
tape deck is very good. i would like to have had dolby on it but it does a very good job of signal to noise as it is.
the tape deck does seem to be very good overall.
i would like to have seen a volume knob instead of the sliders on it but thats ok.
nice big heavy boombox.
gobs of power and good sound.
to be more specific about the box in terms of sound i would say that it colors the sound very much in its own special way.
this is not a flat sounding boombox it is very warm sounding and has distinct character to the sound.
if i had to pick another box it sounds like in my collection i could not as like i said it has its own very distinct pleasant tone.
with the volume pushed up it really pumps out the sound.
is it the best sounding boombox i have ever heard well its the loudest one piece i have ever owned by far.
does it deserve all the praise and hype it gets.
yep you better believe they do. i think it for sure is worthy of being called a grail.
i see my woofers still got a bit of that blue color too them cool. i wouldnt paint them if they didnt.
i have cleaned her all up but it didnt take much.
i still havent fixed the power button. i am just going to leave it on for now and unplug it when i am turning it off.
it is a beautiful radio great looks excellent build quality.
not much more i can really think of either positive or negative.
i am thinking it must make about ten watts rms per side but i have no real idea of the power of it.
good clean warm watts tho.
like i said tho i have no way to know for sure.
excellent radio very very good tape deck. lots of in and outs on the sides for extra fun.
i also much prefer rotary controls to sliders---
and my only m70 big beef -- is that it needs some serious volume
BEFORE the bass kicks in --
so -its just not a balanced box for quiet listening
other than that --
its superb

and bill --now might be the time to hook a pair of your big external speakers
to it --and hear the nice clean power it makes

i did plug it into a pair of old genesis speakers from the seventies i think they were from.
it performed pretty good about as good as the pioneer sx440 i have and that is a ten watt per channel amp if i remember correctly.
i also put it through a set of rock solid monitors and it sounds good too.
it has a decent amp in there no doubt.
i am going to go through some of the junk boxes tomorrow still kicking around here and see if i can find a battery cover to fit it.
im not going to do much with this boombox other than enjoy it.
i have read some reviews of it where people complain about the sound. honestly tho i dont know what people are really expecting from boomboxes.
they all have there pluses and minuses.
i hear you on getting a balanced sound at low volume.
i have more accurate sounding one piece boomboxes but nothing rocks as hard as the m70 that i have wich is a one piece boombox.
