My M70 I dug out of storage

New to the forum. Not a collector. I am the original owner of this awesome box. Bought it new in ‘80 or ‘81. Don’t remember.

My goal is to get it reconditioned. Needs a tuneup. Everything works, but audio is staticky. Switches/knobs sluggish. Belts need changing. Need antenna. Cleaning, etc.

My question is, how/where do you get parts? What should I be wary of? Need trustworthy sources. Looking for good people.

'Do it yourself' is the best way to go.

There are YouTube videos available for complete overhaul of M70s.

Buy generic parts matching with the size from aliexpress as far as possible, to start with (e.g. belts).

Quite often the "staticky" or scratching sound can simply be eliminated by spraying DeOxit into the volume sliders and function switches. It's just a buildup of oxidization over time. Good luck restoring it!

Im not trying to talk you into anything, but you could definitely solve your switch, static, and belt problem at less expense than the one way shipping to our closest member to you.
A can of Deoxit, maybe just a reconditioning for the belt, and it sounds like you’re golden. You can get a complete service manual for it. I may have got mine from here on the site, if I remember correctly.

As a member, you can download the complete M70 owners manual AND service manual, both in .pdf format, from here on the site.
I tell everyone that repairing these units is a lot easier than you think. But that’s just me.

I will keep it i do like the hint of light gold around the speakers. One question how hard would it to be to have a led light in the cassette housing so you can see your tape? Just asking

It must be easy, if you can find a point for tapping power for the LED.

National Panasonic RX-7000 - Cool White LED Illuminated

Here is my National RX-7000, illuminated with cool white LEDs on dial and cassette window. The light is like that of incandescent bulbs. The photos are a bit brighter than the real looks.

I used a 3 LED segment from a 12v strip of 4000k color temperature. The LED strip was fixed to the bottom of the cassette door using its own self adhesive. Panasonic RX-7000 has a dedicated on-off switch for the dial light, hence it was a direct tap. M70 has only momentary switch, hence you will have to provide a switch somehow.

Thought I would throw this LED Light Kit in here just in case. This isn't intended to light the cassette mech but, it does enhance the way the M70 looks. My favorite color is the blue. I think these kits can transform how the light button on the M70 operates. Push on / Push off scenario.

I like that mcintosh blue would you need a second kit for the cassette housing? only activated when the tape is on lol thats my last question
