You do really nice work. You should be proud of your efforts on this box. You mentioned replacing the pots - where did you find those ?

I little appliance repair shop in my town. I called, told him what I needed. He said bring it in and he'd look. He had a look in his back room and came out with em. The dude actually told me to"take em and see if they work, then come back and give me 5 bucks a piece....if they don't work...don't worry about it" :-O I couldn't believe it. He said he repairs tape decks, I might bring him this 8443 to look at...he seems like the kinda guy you want to know(if he knows what he's doing)

You're lucky to have such a nice resource available. At some point I'll run into a pot I can't clean and will need to buy a new one and wondered where they can be bought.

Because I'm new to the board I have to ask - who is the lovely woman in your Avitar ? :-D

Very inspiring .
I think I have the courage that I need now, to work on mine.
Did you have to de solder the circuit board to take it off?

Cheers OSS :afro:

A few had to be de soldered, plus there was a belt that had to be unplugged to gain access to the tuner itself and the tabs for the grill. I also de/re soldered some stuff that looked corroded(didn't think this happened so much). It wasn't that bad. I marked the board to remind me what goes where...I also use a series of cups(working right to left when disassembling/left to right when reassembling) to hold screws from each board/component...helps to remember order of assembly. Plus I take dig pics of every major move...just look at em in reverse order and it's like I have a schematic right in front of me. It's sounds like a lot of extra steps, but it's not really. It does make for a SMOOOOTH job, which is nice(this IS supposed to be fun).
for some reason, the wires were all EXACTLY as long as they need to be.I know you don't want excess for loss of sound quality/current...but on lines this short...come on??? It made it more difficult than it needed to be. Still, go for it.
