Hey I'm about to be a first time 20/20 owner myself! I got a RISING on its way, hopefully I can clean it up as nice as yours...
If not, I might make a clone of the graffiti box in the movie "Breakin 2"... :hmmm:

Did you get one of the two that was on eBay last week?

Bad Boy Bill

Yeah it looks really dirty in the photos, but for 50 bucks I figured I'd give er a shot! Nobody else bid on it...

Bill, how would you rate the sound quality? Similar to CROWN 950? I only assume because they are set up kind of the same... :hmmm:

It's actually more similar to the Crown 850. Size and sound. Larger than 950 and little more bass  My 850 on left and Joes Clairtone 20/20 right.

hey congrats on that rising  when i got mine it was worse than that..It's a fairly easy box to take apart and clean up...now if your going to spray it I used krylon dull aluminum''with a flat clear coat on top ...as for the rear i used krylon smoke grey and i very happy with the result ....for the broken foot i was able to hack off a small piece from an old junker casing that i had first glued it in place then used jb weld to shape it ...this method requires alot of sanding but the result will amaze you   here is my post maybe will give you some ideas for yours ...Its truly a great box enjoy.....viewtopic.php?f=47&t=15120

Hey Bill it showed up today intact, even though there was NO PACKING MATERIALS... They just put it in a black garbage bag and threw it in a box! Its actually not bad cosmetically, just DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY... Must've been used for construction..
Switches are scratchy, but tape deck works (can tell belts are worn out), and speakers all work, cosmetically its solid: just that tip of foot and pause button broken off, antennas missing, and some chip scratches on top panel...
It was set to 230v so I put it back to 115 before plugging it in.. Also included was a cassette tape with 80's Electro Funk/ Breakbeats recorded on it, so I think it is a sign I must make a clone of the one from Breakin 2.. :breakdance:  :-D

Im sure I will have a few questions for you once I open her up for the restoration... ;-)

Hi James,
Your model is same as Jimmy's and mine. I can be also available for any additional help.

Nice to know it is not in bad shape. :-D
Be careful removing the cassette door cover. It is a little tricky. I'm sure it will be nothing diffficult for you. There is an inside lock that you have to disengage, then remove two tiny screws on either side before you can slide upward to take it out. As you know it is so easy to break that small plastic lock.

Back cover screw sizes are different, so also that of the main PC board. Back cover screws one cannot go wrong, but those of the main PC board, there are chances.

Make sure you use the right tip with no play for removing those tiny screws. You will love the dissassembly. :-D :-D :-D It's so much fun. Careful with the cassette deck removal becasue there are almost identical left and right tape channel plugs. The speaker connections, LED and mic connections are written on the PC main board.

Thank you for the tips! I also just checked out your restoration thread, GREAT step-by-step pictures! I studied them now I am ready to got take mine apart and at least clean it up so I can set it on the shelf and listen to it until I have time to fix the foot/belts/ and antennas..
