I..am..emotionally distressed.. After seeing that broken picture!
Complete horror!
Good job at fixing that mess..
I was heart broken when it arrived like that.
It took me lots of time to fix it all.

It is such a good feeling to play this box because of all the work I did on it.

Disaster strikes! :bang:

One of the VU meters were off and on so I was checking any broken solder joints on the left top board parallel to the top side of the box viewed from the rear, with a plastic pin by pushing on the solder areas and that plastic pin broke. I was so stupid to use my multi-meter probe and continue.....and shorted two solder points. I saw a bluish spark...... there goes my sound. It power on ....tape and all work....but no sound. All I can here is some static from controls.

It is one of the solder lines on the edge of the board facing the back that was shorted. Let me see if I can take pic of that area.

The hours I put on to fix this box is a lot! Let me locate where I shorted the lines..... :bang:

I don't know if I replace that whole board might help.......

I checked again.

Line in works perfect! 100% okay!
AM radio works but not that sensitive.
SW1 works normal.
SW2 works normal.
FM has no sound. FM is dead!
Tape plays with low sound.

In the pic below the 6 pin connection is where I think I shorted. It is the middle two pins of the shiny soldering points.

Royce I think the short is in the preamp board I mean I'm not a hundred percent sure but it seems like the amplifier has nothing to amplify. Have you tried it on headphones to see how strong the signal is.

I would try it on the mic inputs every various input this thing has to see if there's a short in in the preamp board.

If it's anything like my Telefunken Studio 1M basically every ground circuit in the unit was burned out so I basically made new ones.

This is very bad news.
I think if you replace this board with another,
maybe you can resolve this problem.
Sometimes on ebay are for sale boards from sharp 777.
I check now, but at this moment there is nothing for sale.
I hope you can find solution, and restore this boombox again.
Goodluck.

Thanks Goodman! I was also thinking in that direction. I might have to replace that board I shorted.

Whenever bad things happen like this we have to stay on the bright side and analyze what we have and what we don't have and move to a comfort zone.

From one channel dead and no radio station working, no cassette working, I made it all work by replacing, amp section, replacing radio board, replacing the weighted flywheel, putting new tuning cord, replacing all belts seeing Bobby's instructions, aligning head and so on. I even opened all the pots to clean the.

It was a great learning experience.

I can still use it for line in and play.

Somehow needs to fix the issues with the shorting of the board. Life goes on and this hobby is always challenging and very interesting.....rewarding and keep you busy.

I will resurrect it some day! :-D

There are days if I could b**** slap a Boombox I would because that's how f****** frustrating they can be. If they aggravate me too bad they just get introduced to the concrete floor.

That makes me think of an old S2G member that chucked most of his boomboxes out a window. Man, I wish I could remember his name.

I bet Rimmer remembers - maybe he'll chime in.

If anybody would have done something like that would have been ned 209 lol. Even though I did toss my first vz2000 out of the upstairs window around 1992.

Ned actually told me that he got a car and bought a sub box for it and after that he couldn't listen to his boxes anymore lol.
