Since seeing the first "Boom Room", and I don't know who started it or coined the phrase, but the visions of basically, Boomboxes as Wall Paper, it is what I think of as a "BOOM ROOM". It has nothing to do with the size of the room, it's the application. There have been posts of "Boom Rooms" that were, in fact, closets. But they were so inviting and welcoming with a proper display, and related nick knacks. I feel like I could just walk in a close the door behind me. One chair with four walls of Booming goodness

After visiting the fine UK Chaps and having a proper glass of Pimm and waking up to a crumpet, I could see myself having a nice relaxing cup of tea in this Boom Room while discussing turn tables, or 3 piece units of the advantages of vinyl. It could go on and on  :-D

".....a proper glass of Pimm and waking up to a crumpet....." Err, there's also another meaning of the word 'crumpet' in UK and, reading your post, it puts your words into a whole new context! :-D

I understand perfectly about being totally immersed in an inviting Boom Room and, even before mine is finished, I've cosied up on a couple of comfortable floor cushions to play vinyl albums on a music centre - bliss. The way I feel about the room at the moment makes me feel I'll be spending more time relaxing in there than in my living room as I enjoy the intimacy of being surrounded by audio and music with memories. My Boom Room also has the benefit of an agricultural field on the outside wall to cranking the music to flow around the house is easy-peasy. And, of course, it helps having a neighbour who's partially deaf!

Not all the items in my Boom Room have a direct personal connection but many do so I find the room quite a personal space as well as it being a music room or display area for my collection.

OK, which ever "Crumpet" your referring too, that wasn't it!

Have a location with a deaf neighbor and an open field is perfect when your an audio collector.
But also having a relaxing space is nice. My boomroom has evolved into a Disco Tech, so either it is "ON" or it's the morning after in a bar with a hang over  Maybe I will go for cozy next time

Ah, therein lies the beauty of Boom Rooms - there is no hard and fast template or pre-determined specification so it's up to us all to use our creative skills. My Boom Room is small so cosy is one of the best options for me but I could have gone for a Boom Booth, with fewer but more specialised/specific items such as vertical turntables on the wall(s), a single Boom Wall, high stools under a long wall mounted counter and even include one of those head height, wall mounted retro music booths that you stand with your head inside. The main limiting factor, in my opinion, would be imagination, it's not necessarily the space available but how it's used.

As for your own Boom Room - dear me, that's a seriously enviable Boom Room if ever there was one on this planet. You have the space, you have the imagination, and you've made it work well.  :hooray:

If I was limited to a space that was little more than a large closet (my own Boom Room isn't much larger) I could imagine fixing a full sized door and frame to one wall as If it was meant to lead somewhere and 'hide'/partially conceal it with BB's on shelves. By painting a nameplate onto the door with a word such as........say......U.N.C.L.E. on it, :-D I would be adding a further dimension or interest to a flat wall. Just thinking aloud.

FANTASTIC JOB CHRISTINE!!!!!! :-)

I have a certificate for City & Guilds Advanced Craft in Carpentry & Joinery & i have erected literally miles of shelving/worktops etc during my time working for the NHS.
I can see from the pictures that all you're work has been done to a very high standard indeed.
You have created a great space to display & enjoy you're fantastic collection & the great hobby that we all love.

Love the all in one music centres  Are some of these from the 1970s????

I spent several years in inventory management in hospitals so encountered many miles of shelving for stock items, nice coincidence.

The bottom of the vinyl albums are kept in place by dowels. I had a somewhat morbid fear of dowels as nothing less than precision workmanship will suffice so, a couple of years ago, I bought a Joint Genie (also available in UK) with a few accessories for about £200.00 ( :w00t: ) as it seemed efficient and easy to use whilst removing any chance of error. My first chance of using the Joint Genie was this job and it was a simpler process than I ever could have imagined so I now plan to use this much more in the next phase. I'm far from big & strong so I need easy, simple, efficient & effective!

I can't tell you the exact manufacturing dates on all the music centres (yet) but one of them - Panasonic SG-1070L - is the same model as I used to party with in the 70's and the others seem to be of similar vintage. I've seen a nice (but, so far, rather expensive) Pioneer music centre which is later in period although it retains the vintage atmosphere & styling to a degree whilst offering a more modern touch and will look good in the Boom Room or my living room. I've also seen for sale (eBay) a Panasonic SG-3000 & Panasonic SG-5000, these look to be more in keeping with silver 80's BB's in styling but they do look a little bland as there's the same silver on every knob, button, dial and surface without exception.

I totally agree with you. I am enjoying this large space, but this won't be our last move. So I might end up with a Boom Booth.

That doesn't bother me, it would still be like this!

^ ^ ^ ^ ^

I try my best, my health isn't as good this year so work has ground to halt for now. I've asked a neighbour's son (a carpenter/joiner) to work on additional shelving for me in other areas around the house as the Boom Room is packed full of audio racks, cassettes, LP's & CD's; turntables, speakers, Hi-Fi equipment and gawd knows what else.
