Oh, this is by no means a contender in any way shape or form to a Telefunken as far as sound performance goes.
Not even in the same universe. You'll need to look to the Sony FH's and other hugely powerfuly threepiece/component units for that.
But as far as the tweeter grills (and I honestly don't think this has tweeters, it think it's for the bass port):
Number one reason: Looks cool/high end
Number two reason: Cheap/leftover parts from other things they produce.
