Quality is mostly gone these days. :sadno:

As an example, We bought a new minibike so the kids could play in the yard. On the first day, the pull cord broke, then the entire assembly spring snapped..twice. Now, the plastic guards near the engine block melted away and fell off, and the tires are going flat.

Well, at least they're sending me replacement parts for free. Did you get anything from the mini bike people?

Lasonic must be a good company to help you out like that. I doubt we will have luck on the minibike, we bought it as-is second hand, in new condition.

I am glad Lasonic is replacing them for you for free but they are definitely worth the $20 bucks they charge too :-O

WoW. A huge bummer to return to a car to see a boombox look like that. But the sad truth is that I'm not suprised, not even one little bit. Some of you already know that I'm not a big fan of Lasonics or any of the other big black empty boxes. I do have one, but just to say I got one. I never liked the quality and always felt they were so cheap they belonged in a cracker jack box. Glad to see that Lasonic took care of you, but if the thing was 5 years old and 2-generations back, I'd be very fearful of that happening again. I suspect however, that the other new competitors, the TDK, the Altec, and the JVC would not suffer damage like that. I have none of those either but if I did, I don't think I'd want to be the one to experiment however.

I love their looks - all of their boxes, but yeah, they are made like crap, lol Kinda like a hot chick who's trailer trash, lol

Nice of Lasonic to help you out for sure  , but it's just another testament to the el-cheapo build quality that seems to apply to most consumer-grade stuff today. Back in the day, even the cheaper electronic gear was made with wood, metal; sturdy plastic what-have-you; nowadays it's all plastic junk with maybe a little aluminum or thin sheet metal here and there; just enough to hold it together where plastic just won't cut it.
My Sansui FX700 spent a whole YEAR under the seat of my car years ago :dunce: :dunce: :dunce: and the only damage it suffered was the power button breaking off due to other things being shoved under there and hitting it. I was mortified when I finally realized it was under there, but a little cleaning and all was well again!! I turn it on now by sliding a key into the slot where the power button was

But anyway, hope the new stickers make the box look good again!

I think we have reached that level of quality where most veneers are cheaper than a piece of heavy duty aluminum foil.

How do fight back though? Crap is everywhere.

Very cool - shocked to see that they sent new decals for free, but just shows they do care. Maybe they will check out different companies for manufacturing a better decal. Something like your cars gauges will withstand tons of abuse.

Yep! That would be nice for sure!

And I still have the decal that goes below the iPod docking area up for grabs.
It turns out the one on my radio was still in perfect condition, so I don't need the new one they sent me.

I sent a PM to ClaretBadger who posted here expressing interest in it, but no reply yet. So ClaretBadger has first dibbs.
I'm not charging anything as I got it for free, and I'll just send it the cheapest way possible, so no need to pay me for postage.

So if you have an i931 it's probably worth buying a sticker pak as insurance!!??

LOL!! Only if you think they're going to stop selling them. Might not be a bad idea, lol!

I think if you own anything of theirs' that they still sell parts for, buy them all now - lol!

Isnt there a site online that sells custom skins for this model. Made to replace the cheap static decals they come with from the factory. I seem to remember these being available when this box was first introduced.

That would be really cool - I'll have to search around for that!
