It kinda sucks but you may have to keep the boomboxes off the shelves for awhile!

Sounds like you're going to keep getting aftershocks.

Most importantly stay safe!

YEP,

Man, looking at the news,7.8 is HUGE! Thankfully it was deep in the ground or this could have been the end for that city. Still looks bad.
yes it was huge! extreme shaking for over 2 min, was only 16km deep which is not that deep. no major cities near the big 1. small towns, including mine. ha

Wow! 7.8 is powerful. Hopefully no casualties.
so far its taken 2 lives. 2 different houses collapsed. 1 in each

any warnings at all
or was it a total shock ?
some say the super moon has an effect but i dont think so. just purely random. the warning was a loud rumble noise then instant shaking, took about 10sec to really get going. seriously violent

so i only just got my wifi back on last night so havent really been on the net.
think there been over 1500 aftershocks all over the country since 12.02am monday morning. there has been (i think) 4 fault lines going off at the same time. some are very close to me. most others are 100+km north of me. the big 7.8 was according to google earth 23km west of my house. i was just about to get in bed, so thankfully i was still fully clothed and in a doorway. the thought came to me at the start to get into my boom room and try stopping some from falling. all i had time to do was turn light on then it started to properly shake and the power went out. then it was about a minute and a half of me being thrown around in the doorway, so loud i couldnt even hear the sound of all my crockery and glasses being thrown out of my cupboards 2 meters away from me. i even yelled to myself "Holy fark". when it finally calmed down a bit i got outside. it was another 2 minutes before it finally stopped.
i had a good idea where my head torch was, so went and found. ran straight over to my nanas house. hers was the most dangerous of all our houses. big 100yr old homestead. multiple brick chimneys. got in and got her out. everyone safe but well shaken.
i managed to get to bed about 4.30am. very troubled 2 hr sleep. aftershocks every 2-3 minutes for most of next 24hrs. 6.7 was biggest on monday afternoon

7.8 is the big 1, brookdale is my house. 23km

Holy cow man, that is crazy. How do you even go back to a normal life after a quake rips your home apart? I can't imagine. Glad to see you are ok and most of your radios survived.

These photos are hard to watch, but sadly, that´s the power of nature for you. As it has been already said, radios can be replaced, but lives not, so i hope everything is alright for you. Take care !

Wow those pictures really bring home the destructive power. Words seem a bit empty after seeing that but truly i hope you are all ok and things calm down. Hopefully all your blasters survived to. You know that all at Boomboxery are on hand to help with repairs and parts. Small consolation i know.

All the best mate.

A bit late to the party here, but glad you are all good there mate. We felt the quake up here in Hamilton too ! Nothing displaced or broken but our pool sloshed out about 2000 litres of water !!! It was like it had it's own tide, it was really mad to watch.
