Might as well ask here too. How to remove the tuning knob from the assembly? It feels like it sits tight and I can't remove the assembly from the front cover without removing the knob...

Awesome Guys. I have the D8443 & D8444. I Got Belts & Gears on Order. I'm Gonna try to bring Both Tape Decks back to Life. Clean everything up respray the Grills. Shine up the Dusk Caps. This will be My First Time taking one apart and putting it back together. So Wish me Luck. I Suffer from CRS. So I'm Gonna take Lots & Lots of Pics.

make sure you probe all the screw holes in the back case to see if you missed any , once you can pull the halves apart there's not much slack on the wires so be careful pulling the back cover off, also you have to unplug the antenna wire to be able to pull the back off far enough to lay it aside. the back cover gets in the way while you are working because the wires from the battery compartment are soldered in with no plugs.so just make sure you have plenty of room to unfold the halves laying the back case below the front case with wires still attached.

Keith the grill is difficult to get out and to get to tabs you must pull everything out of unit. Since doing all that is should get full restoration. ;-). I will be happy to talk you through if needed :-)

Congrats, the D8443 is a great looking box :-D As for pots and switches some deoxit cleane should bring those back to life. The spring looks to be like from a deck door to spring it open :hmmm: The line in sucks on these units and were made for recording tapes off of turntable or 8 track. As for tuner string I may be able to help in a few days as I am going to be replacing my belt on deck. Unless someone else chimes in ;-) good luck

Hey guys,
even if the line-in sucks on this model, mine is barely existing. All the worse, I got a better input signal on the line-outs. Its not recording anything, but I could live with that..
Did somebody mess it up in the past, or is it a common problem?
