the keys are cosmetic only.. could I do what you suggest.. sure.. but all the buttons are on screen.. there's only a power on and volume rocker on the tablet.. and there are only a few 4.3 inch decent Android tablets out there.. this one being the best of the worst lol.. still does the job though..

final touches will happen tonight.. few quirks mainly with the AUX IN.. tablet was playing the same time as the radio was.. found out what to do.. when you pressed play on the cassette deck it turned on the boombox.. just gonna short the wires and that issue will be done.. spent 5 hours on it last night and got burnt out on it.. so finishing up the loose ends tonight.. sound wise.. lol lets just say this isny your typical D8443 anymore :-P a little fine tuning and that's all she wrote.. one disappointment.. a minor one.. the lights on the skulls only light up at higher volumes suggesting it's wattage based.. they do work though.. gives me an excuse to f'n crank it hehe.. I do plan on upgrading them to super brights down the road.. also the LED's aren't running yet as I'm waiting on the line lvl board.. didn't want to risk using the same line lvl circuit for the amp and the LED's better safe than sorry.. video will be made tomorrow.. it will be short with a better one soon after..

another awesome question OS69.. all the boards have been lightly glued in place in case I need to make any adjustments.. once everything is working as intended I will glue them permanently in place.. and any vibrations will be dealt with.. I know this will shake like a mutha hucker but I'm hoping I can fine tune it so the bass doesn't come off as cheesy.. I have 3 ways to tailor the sound so I'm sure I can dial it in.. I went to Radio Shack and got the final pieces to the puzzle.. the Android tablet will go in tonight.. and the first firing up will also happen.. I honestly cant wait.. I really hope everything works as intended.. I'm sure it will but you never know..

take a look at what I did to the front.. added the cassette keys and tape counter back in to give it a more natural look.. what do you think?

covered up the cassette keys area with metal plate..

then glued just the keys back where they would normally go.. came out really awesome!

the final look.. (cassette tape counter is there too!)

Looking great!

You're going to need to change that frequency response graphic up top.

Go!

Well done! Great box to use, good size, not rare, vintage look etc. Also they sound so crappy (IMO) from the factory what the hell  . Keep us posted!

Wow. Impressive stuff. I love that the radio and the controls still work. It would probably easier to just use the shell with entirely new innards but this is much more elegant. Looking forward to the light show!! :-)

Ohhhh.

Thinking; can the lamps in the skulls not be fed from the LED array that you're planning for the spaces above? It might mean swapping whatever in there for another pair of red LEDs but either way, you'd get flashing eyes. Are the skulls fixed to the cores of the magnets or do they have to move with the cones? The former would make it easy to change their source of supply.

great news.. the line lvl piece I needed to get the LED's going arrived today.. 3 days from California.. that means I can get that in tonight.. as far as the lights for the speaker skulls I need to order super bright 3mm LED's and that problem should be solved.. but that will have to be implemented at a later time.. Beo.. I could do that but that would be time consuming and make it harder to remove and change the speakers as they are.. not a bad idea though..

OK! She's Done!

had issues with the LED's the line lvl I ordered actually didn't help at all.. then on top of that the 15th LED (center LED) that I didn't install became an issue.. I cut the 2 wires to that LED but in order for the whole thing to work the 15th LED needed to be there lol.. so had to wire it internally.. then I used the headphone jack wiring prior to getting to the speakers to use as line lvl.. a little fine tuning on the LED's and she's lookin good.. the BASS and TREBLE pots were cleaned.. but they may be defective.. not to the point of not being usable.. but still a small issue.. I could and probably will switch out with the other Maggies board.. but not for a while.. I'm done modding for a few months hehe.. anyways the 2 final pictures are of the internal wiring.. just to give you an idea of how complicated it was.. there is also a final video of it all working.. your gonna love it.. let me know what you all think..

first pic is of all the wiring done..

second is of all the wiring hooked up to the back..

and last but not least.. the final video..
