Just finished restoration on a 5th Magnavox D8443 that I got from Jeff. It's a pretty clean unit although inside was pretty dirty and it had usual busted up gear inside deck. So got the new gear from member who had them made and fully restored her. Only negative to the new gear is its a tiny bit smaller than original and when playing tapes with volume all the way down is you can hear a little grinding noise. Also because of this the auto stop mode don't work. So I might end up just investing money to get a D7140/7240 to get a better gear so it won't grind and will auto stop at end of tape. Otherwise she sounds darn good and cleaned up pretty 😎

Nice job on saving the deck. I always get kinda bummed when I can't fix the tape player. Oh and the cosmetic condition of this boomer looks good too.🍻😁

People don't rate these but I like them...I have two, one of each colour, both restored and fully working. They're no good for a party but for normal listening they're cool. Congrats on bringing another back to life! :-)

Thanks guys 👍Definitely not an outdoor box and I'm sure glad I chose my CEC over the Maggy over 30 years ago for my personal carry around Boombox 😄

Great work Bill. If you ever do another one of these can you do a detailed thread on the procedure for gear replacement?

I still love the look of these and I personally think the sound quality is not bad at all.

Thanks guys 😎. No problem it's not to difficult. Just need to be cautious as the plastic is old and breaks easily removing some of the parts to get to gear. 👍

But here's pic of new gear vs original gear and size is off a little causing issues with auto stop and grinding.

Why do you suppose the grinding is happening?

The gear is hairline smaller probably from drying I'm thinking 🤔

It will be interesting to see how this holds up over time. Are you going to use the cassette for play back or so you can press record and use the line in?

Pretty much playback. But I was able to post a video since I have spare deck. Sorry about getting your member name wrong. Lol. I said TCR which was from a racetrack I had as a kid. Lol 😆Check it out👍
