I don't have an M90, but I did grab a Big Ben and it is seriously bad ass :w00t: the sound, build quality, bass, warmth and range...are awesome. So my question is what am i missing out on by not having an M90?

sound quality?
volume?
better tuner?
better bass?

Anyone who's got both, what are the big differences between the two?

Correct, oh tanned one. I own these items, but I ain't tellin'. Truth is, I haven't had either one out of storage in years. What I can tell you is that, over time, the M90 is a bigger dust magnet than the Big Ben. Can't explain why. Something to do with the flux capacitor, I suspect.

some collectors here will suggest that your m90 is an enjoyable sonic selection :-)

Ya, I have both - I think M90 sounds slightly more balanced. But BigBen looks way cooler - especially with the optional mics that some of our lucky members have - I think Gord and Don have the mics.
Also, BigBen has better highs - at least mine does - I don't even turn it up all the way. The bass is not as good as M90 - even with the sub - but it's pretty close.
In conclusion, if I had to choose only one - I'd still get both  :-D

Well, I'm one of those dissenters that's gonna say that Big Ben has better bass at low to moderate listening levels. The M90, however, has way more volume. The M90 is more balanced and the best way to convey what I'm saying is: picture a normal 1 piece box except double that in terms of physical size and sound and better range. While Big Ben has the subwoofer that is quite noticeable, without it, the sound is average, like it's missing something. Hint: think Bass. M90 commands the big bucks. Big Ben are keepers as they are way more rare (either that or no one ever wants to sell one) and quite impressive looking.

I agree with the super one and Vladi. The M90 is louder with better balance in the sound but my Ben can produce highs that are over powering if the treble is turned beyond flat. The Ben pounds pretty good at quarter to half volume but craps out before the M90. The cool factor is undeniable on the Big Ben, it's got love it or hate it styling. Rating them just for sound and style the M90 takes the sound (top rated one piece for sound) and the Ben takes the styling.

Vladi is right on, If I had to choose one I would definitely take both. :-D

Man the mike's are killer. Interesting opinions, especially the one about the more likely to collect dust:lol:

Wow, if the m90 has more bass that's quite amazing because big ben rattles things pretty seriously! Somehow I think SD must be right about the bass at low to mid volume, I can't imagine needed more without throwing almost any music totally off unless at really high volumes...

cost: m90
rarity: big ben
balanced sound: m90
bass: m90 except maybe lower volumes?
highs: big ben
most likely to hoard: big ben? (unless your rimmer)
overall styling: big ben
must have: both!

damn that m90!

One thing about both these TOTL boxes is that it has a BOTL characteristic -- no illumination! Go figure! Well, I'm gonna work on some solutions. I just hope I don't run out of time cuz next thing you know, I'm Ira :w00t: :sadno:

hey i want monchito's m90 too ( or ira's monstrosity better yet!) we might have a lowball bidding war over the two ugliest boxes around on our hands.

norm- the light thing bothers me too. i was sitting here loving the sound the other night and yet something was missing... the freakin dial light!

i would like to mod mine if you figure something out...it is the missing element to an almost perfect box.

I have both too, and definitely agree with everyone's points.

BigBen for low volume rich and warm sound and the M90 for keeping a huge dynamic range at higher volume.

Both have EXCELLENT tape playback too, I'd put both of them head and shoulders above the rest of my collection for quality and really reproducing the true quality cassettes can have.

I'm yet to take either out though, the BigBen is a real prick to carry due to the depth of the case. And I'm not willing to risk my M90 out in the wild just yet.

Rock On.
